That's a good question.
I imagine you've all driven enough to instantly feel the rear-end get loose, never mind on what (see what I did there?
)
At the track, I've felt what I believe was the tires getting loose. And most pronounced during one of the most recent passes while dialing in the trublows. OK, fine.
Researching this locker vs that limited-slip, there were repeated explanations of how the torque was split between this tire that's not slipping, and that one that is. It's not equal in many setups. Lots of design fine-print as it were.
I think it was during those instances, I was overpowering the diff clutch-pac(s), toasting them.
The Detroit Locker don't play that sthi. Two black marks, or you're off the throttle and coasting.
Got the housing hung today. Nutz drew-up a couple of times pulling the U-Bolts up the the 110ft/lb spec.
With owning and maintaining/repairing this heap since new, in 1993, I've collected enough FSM type of literature to fully support me.
Didn't think about torque specs for the new 2001.5 axle.
Currently looking:
- Torque specs for the four (4) nuts that hold (what I call the mounting bracket) the entire brake assembly, to the actual axle-tube.
- Torque specs for the two (2) bolts that hold the (what I call the caliper adapter bracket) to that mounting bracket.
Info easily found on the interwebs is somewhat confusing as it appears to me they are talking about the two (2) bolts only. No specific instruction for the four nuts for the assembly to the tube.
As the nuts are accessible from the diff side of the mess, I just pulled those four up to 125ft/lbs for now, I can pull them up more later, then knowing the right figure.
Gotta assemble the hubs/rotors and mount them. Then plug in the axle-shafts. Then mount the brake calipers. . . . etc . . . . etc . . .
Gotta keep moving forward.
And stop laughing at my nose!
