Been reading lots of good things about the S478 li 6 blade. 40 grams lighter compressor wheel than a 80 mm compressor wheel, 5 grams lighter than a 71 wheel. Supposedly spools faster than a 75. I want one of these with a 92 turbine 1.1 T6 under my 35 with an external gate. I've also read that the 6 blade compressor spools a little slower under 10 psi due to more gap, and pressure loss, between the 6 blades compared to the 7 and 8 blades. Signature600 (Chris) over on comp d says he has a S478 6 blade with an 87 turbine T6 1.1 as a primary on a ve cummins and it worked (works) great. Some food for thought.

I googled "s478 vs s480" today and read a few compd threads.

Forced inductions carries them, I think they are 1200 with a 92 turbine.

It is, as are most of their S400 line up. Apparently they have different turbine wheels available as well. There is two or three versions of the 87, and I think two different versions of the 92 turbine. Kinda learning as I go along here lol. Lot of crap to look through sometimes to try and find tidbits of good info.

Without a doubt... if one is going to go with an S400, go with the "high flow" or "j-cup" 87 wheel.

Everyone gets so worked up on "lighter, flows more, spools quicker" but never looks at maps and computes. They would rather throw money at it and pray it works as advertised.

I've had a lot of difficulty finding maps for bw turbos. I've got Garrett's site open all the time on my phone, and they've got all the maps right there (it's currently sitting on a gtx5533r)

That helps quite a bit. Thank you. Turns out my s480 is about 15lb/min less than a gtx4508r (which is about the same size compressor wheel)

Back when I first installed twins on my heap, I removed the oil pan to install the primary's oil return port. In putting it back together, clearly I had an issue with the gasket. Right there where the pan goes over the front of the crankshaft.

It's been a leaky/oily PITA since . . . .

A split in the gasket would do that. At least you're fixing it now
