Best pistons for my build?

Postby Begle1 » Tue Oct 21, 2014 12:29 pm

So I'm building my new second gen motor, and need to select some pistons.

What do I want? Are non-intercooled first gen pistons still the best by virtue of the biggest bowl?

I figure I'll match injectors later.

I don't want to drop compression ratio much if any, looking to be as clean as practical. I wil be going .020 over though.

I think the 286210 mahle would work well for you. Bowl 59.xx mm across, 43 cc volume. Their widest bowl is 66 mm with 53 cc volume. That would drop compression too much for what you want. Been looking for bowl width/volume of n/ic cummins pistons, no luck.

That piston may be slightly higher compression than a factory n/ic piston. Not sure.. Pretty sure bowl width is almost the same as a n/ic piston. Maybe a couple mm's narrower.

my vote is to either just go with a stock non I/c bowl. Or go with something to raise compression... then that opens up other ideas, etc...
