So I think I have most of the mechanical gremlins worked out on the truck. I also will be replacing all 4 leaf springs and converting the rear to disc brakes in the very near future. Made a deal with a body man friend to trade out the body work. Once all that is done, it will be time for performance upgrades. I am wanting to add and intercooler and a faster spooling turbo. I am set on which intercooler to use. But which turbo. This will just be a daily driver/tow/farm vehicle. Nothing crazy. Reliability and fuel economy are important. I was looking at this one from hungry diesel. http://www.thehungrydiesel.com/Borg-War ... -60-68.htm What say you?

What fueling mods will be done? Injectors? Pump tuning? Timing? That turbo is great for the 325-400hp HEAVY hauling truck that will be INTO the turbo most of the time.

If a truck is not towing all the time and is in the stock to 350hp range, the Super B turbo is way better all around. Super B can tow extremely heavy loads, but it spools faster than the 60/68 when not using a lot of power.

375hp +......62fmw all day long.
89 RC on shortened 92 diesel frame - NV4500 w/dual disc/4.10s on 37s. - Self built pump, "hot screw", lots of timing, True high volume low pressure lift pump, 62fmw/68/.7gated, 77lpm SAC Inj., Studs/O-rings,- 423/1220 Mustang - 11/16/2013 http://www.TheHungryDiesel.com full line dealer, if you don't see it please ask.

As far as I know, the pump is stock right now, but I have not been inside it yet. Although it does look to be advanced. I can see paint on the engine block and it looks like the pump is turned towards the head. I do not plan to do injectors until the stockers wear out. I would like to do a fuel pin and spring...maybe add spring. I have Beans Diesel sump on order and will be doing a piston pump eventually.

Go with the Super B.

One Super B is a "kit" and the one for $1110.38 is just the turbo. The kit is pretty much worthless on a 1st gen, as BD's kit comes with 2nd gen components.

Order the turbo only, and then either order a HX40 flange downpipe or one can weld on a hx40 flange to an existing 4" d/p for $25.00. Then you'll need an HX40 exhaust clamp $25.00.

Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you. What is the killer b?

Killer B is a 63/65/14. Larger turbo, more air and more lag than stock injectors need.

You'll have to cut the leg off the intake horn, as in the picture you'll see what's left when it's removed. Depending on what turbo you are going to use, hooking it up to the piping would be the only minor issue. If you used say an HX35, or even a IC H1C, it's all there. If you are going to run the stocker, you'll have to find a elbow that goes from the small outlet to the rather large IC piping.

So I found a complete second gen intercooler set up. All piping plus intake horn. What will I need to connect the second gen intake piping to my stock 89 turbo?

Gonna have to get crafty if you are going to adapt the stock baby H1C to the intercooler. Figure out a way to get the 2" compressor outlet to the 3" intercooler piping, an make a 90 degree bend in there too. Might as well plop on a different turbo while your in there, it'll solve your current lag issue too, and you won't need to get hokey adapters to fanaggle the stock turbo to the intercooler plumbing.

Also, since it wasn't mentioned before, you'll have to modify the throttle bracket. Yes, you can do as I did in the pictures and cut the top off, but then there is just one bolt on the bottom holding the entire throttle bracket assembly on. You could weld on some tabs to re-attach it. I picked up an IC throttle bracket (91.5-93) off eBay for cheap. You'll have to do some grinding on it to go around the injection lines, 75% of part of a certain area will need to be ground down.

This isn't a 100% bolt on affair. You will have to do some sort of modification somewhere.

So my stock turbo is 2" and the piping is 3" correct? I haven't gotten the intercooler yet. Will be picking it up this week. I will need to do a 90 right at the turbo like in your pic correct? So if I can find a 2"-3" 90 I would be golden right?

Possibly. I'd double check the sizing just to be sure. I've been known to be wrong before ;)

Will do. Thanks for the info. Just to clarify though, the only 90 and reducer I will need is right at the turbo hot side correct?
