They must be Chinese turbos. Gotta be at those prices. Stage 3  ceramic bearings on the compressor side and ?? Bearings on the turbine side?

China Made. Sometimes they last, sometimes they don't. I'd check out "The Hungry Diesel" for inexpensive turbos that aren't overseas models.

While I would agree that The Hungry Diesel are probably better looking at price, the price jump is quite a difference. I have no experience with either of course. Just looking at it strictly from a price standpoint.

I would bet that some of those turbos are more reliable than Borg warners holy grail efr turbos. But which ones? I guess if you have your old turbo as a back up, and maybe a spare intercooler in case yours gets filled with Chinese shrapnel.

Typically the thing that goes out on a Chinese turbo is the bearings.

They also sell an intercooler kit for 89-91 trucks. The core size is 24x12x3. How does this size intercooler compare to a 2nd gen or a power stroke intercooler? Also at $599, which would be cheaper? Probably a second gen and piping?

The intercooler kit is a custom made deal, and I would trust it more than I would turbos. I know someone that was getting their stuff from CX to re-sell though, and they did have issues with some having internal boost leaks, and others with flanges that were off. If it's "right" it should work great, but it may not be. Also, expect them to tell you just to buy another one if you have a warranty issue. This was a few years ago, so things might have changed since then but I doubt it.

Most Borg Warner turbos start off around that $700 mark. Reason our turbos are such a jump in price is because we have to swap turbine housings, machine the housings, in most cases completley change out the thrust bearing assembly (except the 62fmw, that comes with the good ones from borg). Then onto the compressor side of things.

This is to best utilize the turbos ability to our specific engines, as well as make them a bolt on deal.

If one were to want to fabricate a little themselves and have a slower spooling set up.... more affordable turbos can still be sold for half the price of our bolt on line. Which at that point is close enough that it would never be a good idea to save a couple hundred bucks for a Chinese knock off turbo.
