AFC fix

Postby brandonmgreer » Sat Mar 07, 2015 4:00 pm

Can anyone tell me the drillbit and tap size to put a compression fitting on the AFC top? Mine broke yesterday.

Are you talking about where the boost reference line goes? Its a metric size but quite a few people tap it out for 1/4” NPT.

Yes. The nuts on the IP came loose, and the go st reference tube broke while it was moving around. I was Donna put truck fittings and 1/4" poly line in its place.

I think I screwed an 1/8" fitting straight into mine, either that or the head. Just ran an 1/8" NPT tap into the other one, no drilling needed.

The head is 1/8" fitting and you have to tap the pump top to 1/8" npt. I picked up two heavy duty air line fittings and a piece of poly airline.

Thanks guys. Yes, the head is an 1/8 NPT thread. The AFC cover I put in the vice, and drilled/tapped to accommidate the 1/8 NPT fitting.

The bit size is 21/64 to tap for an 1/8.

If anyone does this in the future, a good sharp tap is needed, or it will bugger the hole trying to start it. Bought a new tap, it went easy as pie. Another excuse for new tools, right?

Sorry for the spelling earlier, my fat fingers don't do so well on the phone.

It still ran, Eric, just not very good, and was doing some weird stuff. One of these days, I'll get caught up, and we'll get this build started! I'm brewing a new idea... mwahaha

A 1/8" compression union will fit in the AFC housing quite well. Run a 1/8npt to 1/8" compression fitting adaptor from he head. Run some 1/8 air line in the middle. There is some debate as to whether the 1/8 line is too restrictive, but I never had any issues.
