he351 on 90 non i/c

Postby bennett_jacob » Fri Mar 13, 2015 9:04 am

Hopefully I can figure out posting the pictures soon but either way I'll write it up. The other day my old turbo blew on the way to work right after I put a new clutch in, trust me hasn't been the best week for the old gal. After all day of trying to find a replacement a friend of mine had an he351ve for 300 so I went and got it I got kinda nervous when I realized how much it was gonna take to.get it in but turned out not bad at all. The turbo mounted great had to go to Orielly and get the fittings for the oil feed which was the easy part. Next thing was the exhaust spent another day trying to find the 4in v band, no one had it but then turns.out pep boys over custom exhaust shops had it although 100 bucks it worked perfect because the turbo didn't come.with the cast elbow. After I got the flange a friend of.mine scraps tractors and he said anything I need come get it he had a huge john deere rig I went.out there grabbed the turbo. And all the piping mainly for the piping and 4in exhaust but who doesn't want a free turbo. Anyway got all the exhaust welded and mounted now it's time.for the intake, my uncle works at an exhaust shop so he bent me some pipe for the crossover tube to the intake grabbed a few coupler and made an intake.horn with some 3/8 plate and another exhaust elbow and everything.works great. I have an intercooler and everything but the truck is my daily and I'm.doing a cab swap and front end swap so this will get me by until I get everything done. I'll post the pictures today hopefully

Dammit I was hoping it was a VGT with a write up on the vane controller :(

Is a 94 and up intake horn really that much better? I bought another 93 I'm starting to mess with

Plan on it! I will try to be at both. There is one in June and the usual one the last weekend of October. In fact, I plan on being there for the bracket bash and racing. So around once a month until the little one arrives late July/early August.

Congrats! I'll try and make that unless the first one is the same weekend as King Of The Streets at GLD. I regret not racing my last truck, but it did stay out on a 14.60 sec 6.7 so that's cool with me lol

I'm mid stroke of putting a 351VGT in my truck. Does your turbo have a different flange than the VGT? Mine is going to need an adapter to go from T3 to T4i IIRC. I've heard of guys elongating their holes out so it all works. Is that what you did?
