I'm not talking to it right now. It has a tick.

A more in depth update......... me personally, am about a second away from sending my old 92 block off to far away, country known machine shops and then myself building it.

To this 89 block........... my engine builder has built hundreds of engines in his life, that work just fine, many are competition engines. We have had the entire engine spec'd out by 2 machine shops. This was after the first time when the wrist pins were having issues. No one could find anything at the time....... so we decided to replace the bushings and do it again.

This noise is different. My point in all of this is.......if something is wrong again, 2 machine shops and 1 builder have no idea why.

But i will say this "tick" turns into a knock when the engine is hot enough....something is definitely wrong somewhere. But it doesn't have that rotating assembly rpm type thing. Where when you load/unload it it gets "loose", it doesn't have that. It is just like something is hitting something. And it is not a valve.

However........ I was told by Hamilton that some early trucks, the rod caps can hit the cam lobes. Supposedly (at least some) early "industrial engines" had wider rod caps on them. Ryan said some flat out smack, other may miss by a thousands or two.

Maybe that is it......... if it is barely clearing, and when it warms up is smacking it.... hitting the rod cap would also tq the rod sidways, which could also grab the wrist pin if hard enough. That's my only lead to a potential cause. It may not be it..........but ?

Ouch. I've heard of that happening with 12v rods in 6.7's actually (billet rods too maybe. I can't remember). An engine builder friend of mine said turning the rods around fixed the issue.

It would be easy to see if they were hitting once you pulled the engine. Flip it over and pull the pan then rotate engine.

And that might not be it.......... I've had quite a few guys listen to it and everyone of us are a "I honestly don't know if that is a bad noise or not" attitude.

But nothing has blown up yet. Maybe it is some weird combustion noise??????

All I know........ these 6x16 with large feed bodies and pintle mods are still cleaner (minus idle) than any injector was in my old 12 valve. This thing flat eats the fuel I throw at it.

Remember......mine makes weird noises too. Only time it doesn't is wide open....above 2k rpm. It honestly has gotten better with the extra timing.

You can hear mine tick from across a parking lot. When it is hot it has a knock. They both come and go........ it's weird.

I wish I had electronic timing control. This thing needs a lot more idle timing than cruise timing for optimum "tuning" and then LOTS of wot timing for best wot timing............ I need a damn cp3 on it.

I think I am too much of a perfectionist in tuning......no matter what something is always not perfect. It bugs the hell out of me. And one can only do so much with what ya've got. I've gotten so I can get into any vehicle and all I notice is "timing is wrong here, afc is too advanced here, not enough here, turbo needs to spool quicker, gate housing is too restrictive". It's a freaking curse.

I know.....a little something about that. I've just got no time to investigate. I've had those freakin tips for what seems like an eternity.....in their freakin box still.

Does a VE 24v sound any different than a VP?
