New engine is back.

Postby RCCUMMINS89 » Fri Jun 19, 2015 3:15 pm

The new engine was delivered today (finally). I've got to pull the old engine, and then transfer a few odds and ends, and customize a few things still. As the new engine has a 24 valve head on it.

Specs:

89 Block, blue printed and balanced. Stock bottom end components.

VP head, H.O. pistons (probably should of went a different route).

18.25:1 compression

Hamilton 182/214, Hamilton 103# springs, stock push rods.

7x.011 Micro blind VP injectors, honed 30% over at 3.7LPM.

62FMW (may switch to a 351/472 compounds prior to going in..... maybe).

Why a blue printed block? That is only a good thing on CU IN displacement restricted classes...

Sounds like fun though!!

Jon.......simply going off what the machinist told me. Why? Maybe that's what he is used to.... I didn't question it.

Just curious. Some times it is a marketing scheme and other times the builder wants it. I was just wondering the reason.

My grandfather raced circle track back in the 1960s-1980s. He built all of his engines and engines for his friends. Back then in "stock car" racing, when it was truly stock cars, blue printed engines were all the rage and for good reason.

I vote for the compounds. It'd do sooo much better on the top end vs. the 62.

And theoretically on the low end. I agree 100%..... just not sure if the time frame will allow it prior to the engine going in. I've got a lot of things to do yet before it goes in. Plum in return line, plug holes, re do temp sensors, list goes on and on. Still need to get the correct heli coils for the lines.

Anyways, forgot to add..... compression came back around 18.25:1. Not as high as we originally were going for, but we didn't modify a thing (no recessed valves, or fly cuts). But I feel it should be a happy medium.

Are you sure those are 110# valve springs? My Hamilton springs are 103's, and I've had them nearly a year.

Everything else sounds really cool though

Are those a direct swap in? Proper length?

And yes Ducati, they are the 103#. Not sure why I had 110 in my mind.

They will need to be trimmed a little but they work awesome. I loctited mine to the DV threads and they stay put.

110# used to be the standard, so it's understandable to have that in mind

Story of my life. I haven't done a damn thing on my compound setup since I got my new job. Now there might be a hornets nest somewhere under the hood (not quite sure though. Dad got scared Wednesday by one, and left my hood open. Turns out both chargers are visible from ground level at quite a decent distance with the hood open, so more red is really going to be nice)

Why the 24v? From what I've read at higher rpm the 12v makes more power. I was considering doing a P7100 24v but it seems the don't mean Dick after 3k rpm
