A 12 valve head, heavily ported, can make move more air in the upper rpm (it is actually more of the strength of the head in the high rpms)............but a ve is not a high rpm engine. The 24 valve heads are more efficient in the lower rpm than a 12 valve head.

Now in saying that.......guys are making HUGE power in CR heads. A 24 valve head is not a down grade, at the upper levels.

I set this entire engine up to match a ve's fueling curve. A very strong low to mid range cam that is still efficient to 3500ish rpm. a 24 valve head is stronger in the lower range (porting actually can hinder low end, and a 24 valve head out flows a stock 12 valve head, all while being more efficient in the low to mid range). Also with a 24 valve head, I can utilize a high quality 7 hole injector design (better low end tq). However, we may end up trying the 6 hole sac. Also raised the compression to help burn the low end fuel as well.

The one thing I feel I screwed up on.........I shouldn't of used a HO piston. It probably won't hurt that much, but we should of went with a much wider bowl design.

Any worries about the valve seat issue in the 24v head?
Not saying it was a bad call just was curious what your plan was

The only years that was an issue (about as common as a kdp issue....not rare, but not all that common either), were the early common rail heads.

On a side note, got off my butt in our hot weather. Went out and pulled the hood, and core support off. Can't exactly pull the engine out (don't have a hoist) with our truck this high.

Hopefully will pull the engine tomorrow evening.

When I pulled my engine I took the front tires off and set the pickup down on blocks just high enough so the rotors didn't hit. It sure made it a lot easier to work on.

I considered doing that as well. But with the fenders off and the core support, things are extremely easy to work on, and at chest height.

After learning how to run a skid steer I have found their incredible usefulness (though sometimes what I've seen that jcb do has genuinely scared me)

Was able to get about an hour in tonight. Everything is unhooked but the 2 engine mounts and bellhousing.

Little update. I somehow managed to jack up a delivery valve holder, when attaching the very last injection line...... to my surprise that was the last set I had. Therefore I decided to order 6 new delivery valves and holders in.

Also needed to order in the metal part of the dip stick tube (part that presses into the block).

So, I'm again in hold land for a day or two.

That piece that goes into the block sucks mud. :x I was checking the oil one day and when I pulled the stick again after wiping it off there was nothing on it! I was upset is putting it mildly. I put it in and out 2 more times before I saw the greasy gunk on the end and figured out what the problem was, the tube broke off. I pulled the starter, and then threaded it to 5/16, screwed a bolt in and pulled it out. I was darn lucky I didn't have to pull the pan.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

Ya no kidding.

Just came out from the shop. Have pretty much everything swapped over. Waiting on a few odds and ends that I needed to order in from Cummins.

This up coming weekend I should be ready to stick it in..... If I had those parts in front of me, I could probably do it tomorrow.
