You'll have that with those overvalved engines. ;)

Sounds like you got lucky!!! i was def thinking you dropped a valve.. I am about to have my motor pulled studed and girlded with all new parts (a little dif than your build) i hate reading about problems after its all done.. i would blow up :bom:

I'm officially fed up. Still getting air in the system.

I've added a sump, replaced all the lines, fuel filter assembly (even by passed it to check), all the lines all the way to the injection pump. Pump the lift pump manually and no bubbles in the system, clear to the injectors... start it up, foamy fuel at the injectors.

Piston LP right? Check the seal on the large nut the inlet fitting goes into. I'm sure you know, but there are 2 pistons in it, the 1 for the hand pump, and the one for the engine driven pump. I'm thinking that the engine driven one is sucking air, it may not be at the inlet seal either, maybe it's the shaft seal to keep oil out or something like that?
Either that or the LP is drawing too hard and causing cavitation when running? I'm not sure how with big lines but it's all I can think of!

I've replaced it, still nothing changed. I've also cracked the inlet fitting to the injection pump while running..... no bubbles there.

Ellis on the bookface mentioned dv not sealing correctly.... maybe? But heck they are all brand new, and I would think it would be not consistent between cylinders.

I'm sure it is something simple, and I'm just not seeing it.

I'd be tempted to try an off-board fuel system and an electrical pump. Jug of #2 and a Carter 4601...and be really careful wid the line seals...:)

or maybe something cheaper like: http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product ... 53502.html
cheers,

It is not sucking air pre injection pump. It has been tested over and over again.

I'm going to pull the delivery valves and re check them and the crush washers. Talking to both of my pump builders.... it is acting like a delivery valve issue.

In the mean time, it is no longer getting air.....yet acts almost the same. High rpm it is smooth......idle it is almost perfect. Off idle it has a noticeable wobble to the engine. Like the cylinders aren't being fed evenly.

This is why one is supposed to bench a pump when parts are replaced.

If it's getting better......why not just run it awhile longer. Maybe like I said, something is lapping in. I know things are not supposed to do that inside an injection pump but seems/sounds like that's what's happening.

I'm slowly putting it back together. I have to finalize the mount of my remote filter set up. then rig up my shut off cable and throttle cable and then I'm going to drive it. Oh yea, I have to rig up my coolant temp gauge too.

As an update...........September was archery season for elk.......means no working on a vehicle.

Today I finally said the heck with it. Went out and decided I was just going to drive it. As without air, it still had a sustained rpm miss in the off idle to mid rpm.....above that was fine.

After 20 zip ties later I could red neck her down the road......drives amazing! I can't feel that miss, though sometimes I think I may hear it under the hood (though not through the exhaust). Once warmed up I virtually can't even make it haze. Has the "stock 1st gen start up puff" and that is it.

I'm going to finish installing gauges, make throttle linkages and what not, put the hood on and drive it for a few days and see how it goes.

You still using the 7hole vp tips on the bodies? What are the pop pressures set at on them?

7x.011 micro blind sac vp injectors........then honed out 30% over. Pop set at 255 bar.

Remember that was one of the biggest reasons I chose the vp head. That, along with a 182/214 cam, and raised compression (slightly) I was hoping to get the same peak hp, but a clean running truck.

I only took it for a short drive, but it seems all of these things have been perfectly balanced, and the result is even better than I expected. But again........short drive.

I've got to get my cores to you to have honed. I'm itching for some more go.
