fass & air dog lift pumps

Postby kyled19 » Tue Jul 21, 2015 8:45 am

I was browsing lift pumps today and saw that fass lift pumps designed for first gens only run 8-10psi and air dog is only 10-13 psi, but the 98.5 pump is 16-18 for fass and 15 - 17 for air dog could i use the 98.5 on my first gen instead? seems like that pressure rating is better for our trucks?

No you will blow the seal out of the front of the injection pump unless you regulated it down. Guys loctite the seal and then run 12-15 psi. The volume of fuel being pushed is more important than the pressure.

If you are going to go electric..........Air Dog 165, they have an adjustable regulator. Therefore you can set it to whatever you want.

Why are you wanting to go electric?

I put an Airdog on about 5 years ago and it has been making 22-24 psi ever since. The pump I had on then had a stock seal and it never pushed it out. I put loctite on the seal of the pump I have on now, just for good measure.

have a deal for a fass 150 off a duramax for 150 bucks fass' website says they are 8 - 10 psi this should work perfect right? all i have to do is get the fuel line that runs to the injection pump.

A few have had good results at 20 or so psi.......our 15 kits are not un common to run 16 and in some cases 16.5 psi cruising.

In saying that, the general consensus is that 15-17 psi mark... above that play at your own risk. Choice is up to you.

ok cause i think the pump i found might be a universal pump running at 16 - 18 psi might be to risky without a regulator I'm going to look into it a little more and see what i can find out. on a side not how much does your piston style pump flow and is there any way to get a 2 or 3 micron filter on our trucks without a fass or airdog?

There is a Cummins "kit" to turn our factory filter set up into a dual filter. I'm sure there are 2 micron filters that can screw into place in that kit. We also carry a "common rail" dual filter set up with 2 micron filters, that is remote mounted..... I'll be running on on the RC with the new engine (runs about $200).

As far as piston pump flow, there really is no accurate Cummins gph rating on them.... aftermarket suppliers of the "oem" pump show around 60gph. Which is plenty for almost all setups. I run 5x17 injectors, and have done 425hp and 1220/tq and it keeps up fine.

Will your psi drop? Absolutely, that is the reason, and the only reason that this electric pumps are over kill at 150+gph, as that is the only way to get a zero psi drop.

ok thanks for the info! and for anyone else who wants to know i found out that with fass lift pumps you can change the psi rating buy buying the right pressure spring super easy to replace and the spring for our trucks is 3 bucks. I found a pump for 150 bucks a 3 dollar spring and then all the hoses fittings and wiring harness is 238 bucks so for 400 bucks I have everything that i need! if anyone needs any part numbers for springs or mounting hardware fuel lines anything like that I have them all directly from fass. Is anyone interested in a possible write up on all the part numbers and installation? probably won't be installing for another couple of months but if you guys want a write up on it I will be happy to make one.
