When do you need to upgrade the lift pump?

Postby rollcoal » Fri Jul 24, 2015 10:16 am

So I am fairly knowledgable on the P-series stuff, but with the VE rotary, when do you need to go to an air dog or electric pump? I have seen there is an aftermarket mechanic lift pump that flows 25% more fuel and it seems that as long as the rotary is getting 7psi or higher (lower than 17) of fuel it stays happy on the first gens. Is that correct? I could see where adding a air dog would be nice just from a maintenance perspective because of the twin filters.

There really is no reason for an Airdog or FASS unless you are running gigantic injectors.

We use that piston pump kit you are referring to on virtually all of our ve builds. We've used them all the way up to 6x16 injectors, and 5x18 injectors. Lowest that has been reported back to us for inlet pressure is what I pull mine down to, which is about 6-8psi. My pump manages 200+psi of case pressure with the ksb activated..... meaning it is not going to benefit from increased fuel pressure.

The choice is really up to you. The highest 12mm fuel only was from our moderator, which did it on 12 psi of inlet pressure. Which he uses an electric pump (walbro? I believe).

I know a couple guys who push 25+ PSI through a boost referenced fuel regulator. They have 10 or so psi with no boost and it goes up 1:1 with boost
