superbee/s472 build

Postby 9312v » Mon Sep 07, 2015 10:55 am

First off I'd like to say that this build will be a bit on the slow side. Now with that being said I destroyed my clutch shortly after putting the 5x12 injectors I got from Eric in, I purchased them with enough fuel for twins and my little organic Southbend wasn't having it.

What I have so far:

Valair ceramic dual disk with 1 3/8 input shaft
s472 83mm with a 1.10 t6
BD super B 57/65/14
5x12 injectors honed to flow 72lpm
Power stroke intercooler
Gasket matched stock manifold
Rear main gasket set

What I need:

Oil feed lines
Oil drains
Hot pipe
Charge pipe
Down pipe
s400 outlet adapter
Oil pressure, turbo #2 boost and drive pressure gauges.

Verocious motorsports have a nice pre-made oil feed line that I was planing on using, I was thinking -4 but am open to suggestions. I am unsure about the drains though. My original plan was to run -12 an(3/4 ID) push lok hose with crimp clamps with a y fitting as close to the block. For the hot pipe I was going to use schedule 10 pipe and pie cut it because I can get my hands on that no problem. With schedule 10 should I use a secondary mount to support the s400? or would it be fine to just hang it off the super b?

Always build a mount for the primary. Make sure it is connected to the engine though so when the engine torques, it moves the primary.

Schedule 10 should be fine but I would wrap it to help keep the heat in.

Sounds like fun!

I got my clutch in yesterday after fighting a stripped 12 pt bolt for the pressure plate.

I have also been working on the hot pipe at work. T6 flange showed up yesterday so I tacked that on too

I am hoping to have the hot pipe done next week or at least heavily tacked together so I can start on my charge piping. Planning on having the trans in this weekend.

Man I don't know how you guys can stand using those rings, and having to weld all of them. I had to do 8 on my hot pipe, and it's a much longer section due to my running the turbos side by side. My cold pipe is less than a foot of piping, does a hard 90 (literally, where the inlet on the secondary meets the outlet in the primary I tacked it, and made a section of a bend fit in the intervening area) and has 3 welds

I would have preferred a 90* bend but I found a piece of pipe in the scrap bin at work and cut it up. My cold pipe will be all sanitary grade mandrel bends courtesy of the again the scrap bin. On a side not the Valair starter spacer does not work with the stock 1st gen engine adapter plate. I had to modify the spacer a little bit with a router.

Ahh makes sense. I used a bunch of 4" mandrel bent exhaust piping I ordered from source automotive. My s400 compressor flange also came from source automotive, my secondary turbine outlet is from diamond eye (the one that came on my 4" system initially) the flange on my primaries turbine inlet is a bd t4-t6 adapter I got from puredieselpower, and the primary turbine outlet flange is from blacks diesel, and came with my 467

I got my s400 flange from keating machine (a lot cheaper than stainless diesels) along with the exhaust flange and clamp. The s400 compressor flange and clamp are going to purchased from race part solution as they have a nice pre-made adapter to 3". All of my piping is SS so I'm trying to keep as much of it that way .

Dman, what are you going to do for oil lines? My stock line works but is a little tight. what about oil drains?

I got my flange for the big turbo from Race Part Solutions too. It was what I thought to be pricey, but it had the holes all predrilled for the support bracket.

I have a -4 line from cummins performance parts (2" longer than stock) on the secondary, and for right now a -6 line from source automotive on the primary. I want to get some reusable -4 fittings to make use of the -4 line I have, so both chargers have -4. My current drain setup consists of one of source automotives flexible drains on the primary, and a stock drain flange with some of the stock drain welded to it going into some 7/8" hose. While not ideal I T'd the stock drain port on the block, and run both turbos into it (that's the biggest reason for running -4 feed lines)

Off topic...

Good to know that the VW cargo/spare tire cover will hold up an NV  I've been thinking of making some sort of plywood cargo containment just for hauling heavy stuff...

Is your VW a ALH, BEW or gasser?

Cumminspower: ALH 5 spd. I had the trans in the back for a couple weeks. You could definitely notice the power difference. It can also fit three 35" tires with the seats down.

Dman: I was thinking -4 feeds and -12 drains with a Y as close to the block as possible. I think that should allow for enough distance for the oil to solidify.

On topic: The little saw at work is broken so I'm not sure when I will get to get my last pie cut done. It's going to be hard not to rail on the truck during the clutch break in process. I also think I lost my NV PTO covers somewhere  I will be looking high and low but I may just get some from Genos with the sight glass. I don't see the benefit of getting the Cooler sides that hold more fluid for my use.

I bought a Y for 3/4" copper at a plumbing house and used that for my drains. It was pricey at $28 but it is brass. I've had no problems yet with oil backup that I have seen.

PTO covers are universal, all the small 6 bolt ones are the same size. The larger size takes 9 or 10 bolts, I can't remember exactly, but they are like 7"x10".

I made my T out of another oil drain pipe I had laying around from a 2nd gen, and have it going right into the stock nipple in the block. For my turbo arrangement I it should work alright. -12 drains should work with -4 feeds though -14 might be a little better option.

I think I'm going to tap both drains on the 24v I have for brown, so I can do nice braided drain lines with -14, and still do -4 feeds (and if I get the garret bb charger I want I'll need a restrictor anyway) I'm contemplating a gtx3582r/gtx4202r for that truck along with some mild head porting, and a 4mm camplate ve

Well I wanted to tuck the turbo down low but my hot pipe didn't work for that so now the 400 will be up front.
