low pressure lift pump installed results

Postby bigtrev » Wed Sep 23, 2015 9:10 pm

Installed hungry diesels lift pump upgrade very good product it runs 12.5 psi at idle 14-15 at cruising speed and the thing that scares me when u let off from low rpm my 15 psi guage pins the needle at full hopefully doesn't blown any thing out so far so good it has been 2 weeks loving the power to the top and I swear the trucks running different because she will break loose in all gears in the rain now and I could barely break loose in 3rd before also put in hungry diesels fuel pin and did full pump reseal most I could pull her down to is just over 6 psi

What are your mods? Fuel filter health? Line size?

Your psi readings are rather low. Should idle at 15.

That set up normally runs 15 at idle, and about 10-12 at wot with those numbers. You're still completely fine and getting plenty of fuel, but if you ever wanted more, I'd recommend putting on larger lines to start.

So just thout I would do a little update on this. I did killer dowel pin this weekend my pin was still fully seated while I was in there I did the lip seal, red locktite on the injection pump as I was seeing allot of extra oil on the dip stick after the new lift pump. Checked all the bolts took them out lock tited and Re torqued they wer finger loose as most ppl have described in forums 407000 kms on the truck now when I fired it up the fuel pressure gauge was reading a 3 psi more than before also changed fuel filter at the same time if I could recommend somthing to us mildly modded guys I think 12 psi is wer a guy wants to be the pump would still supply great fuel and not have near the problems you get from the spikes after a good pull (ive seen 18psi) or just the sheer pressure of this pump

We used to offer a 12 psi pump for these reasons. But after about 3 years and not a single front seal failure that I was aware of, we discontinued the 12 psi pump.

As to date, I have been aware of 2 or 3 front seal failures of close to 800 pumps sold.

However, we may start offering the 12 psi pump again.

Just an fyi though.......the Cummins low pressure pump used in some of the ag applications, runs 18-20.

Anytime one wants the 12 psi spring........At the time of purchase, it is an extra $20 and about a week wait time.

Afterwards..... If one simply wants it, $20 and a week wait time. I'll walk you through on how to change it.

If it is a seal failure.....that is covered under warranty and it is a free swap for life. And I'll walk you through on how to change it.

Ambient fuel temperature will vary the psi readings quite a bit. It is common for a low cold psi, that comes up with temp. Fuel thickens, harder to pump.

That's the first thing that comes to mind.

Have you pulled the inlet line off the lift pump and verified that the screen is clear? It's always a good idea to use a cheap in-line strainer before the lift pump to keep the big junk out ;)

Do you have a needle valve, or a snubber, or air in the lines?
