It depends on the person. Personally I dd a truck with a massive single turbo (4th gen with an s480) but my ve pumped 93 is getting compounds because I feel it's the right way to go for what I want with the truck

If I can ask...what are your your goals/reasoning?... would it be beneficial pulling 18k over mountain passes..I'm new and realize there are numerous personal preferences, still nice (informative) to hear different takes...thks

Compounds allow for a broader power range. The goal with my 93 is the fastest spoolup possible while also being able to make more than 400whp. A single that'll spool as fast as I want won't give me the top end that I want, so adding another turbo is the way to go.

For towing (especially over mountains) with a truck that's turned up, and running bigger injectors compounds would be a really good idea. Something like an s300g over an s472 would give excellent driving characteristics while being able to keep egts in check for that much weight up a grade. An s300g would actually do well by itself with less fuel too though (it'd likely still run warmer than with the extra turbo in there

I asked my mechanic the other day bout twins for my 3500, thinking I would have power/torque when I needed it, as well as hopefully less egt's,but his response was.."not worth it". I realize money is a factor (didn't discuss how much), I'll find that out. What kind of mileage loss could you expect with the twins?...I realize thats a loaded question...assuming same/equal driving habits?...I'm not into showing off, dislike rolling smoke. I have started upgrading with super b, 6x10, 4"ex, 3200, minor tune, etc..

Why do you think you'd lose mileage? Spec'd right the exhaust side doesn't provide more restriction while you're also increasing air volume going into the engine allowing for better use of the fuel. Mileage most likely either won't change or will improve slightly

For towing, absolutly go for it.

I was going to put a set on my 91 (351cw/ht3b) for towing, ended up selling truck so no longer need the parts.

It all comes down to how much/often you tow as the right compounds will help immensely.

I really think with right fuel and twins you'd have more problems with the cooling system than egts. Keeping the rpm up some and not lugging it makes alot of difference keeping the egts down when towing with a hotter setup (not that it's good for any setup, but it'll kill a hot one faster ). But, unless you want to tear up jack, I think a closer to stock setup is a better idea for towing 18k in the mountains.

Theres a lot to be said for 'close' to stock set up, (close being relative) :). Ithe 'turboed' diesel in our pickups are soooo much better than the old gassers.. it has changed everything. I bought my first 5.9 in 94, After seeing their potential (89)I looked into buying motor from cummins to put into my 65 chevy except if I remember right they wanted around $7500 which didn't count bellhousing, adapters, upgrade suspension, drivetrain, etc.,etc but did come with a 250,000 mile warranty from cummins., yet you could go buy one for around $15,000 (if I remember right), with warranty, new tires yaddi,yaddi,...now that I have driven them for 20 years or so it is nice to know you can get a little more out of them, and thats whats so nice about this forum to hear and read what can and has been done...and that their is some give and take...I guess right now I'm looking for more take :and less give :) I so appreciate the knowledge from everyone THKS

Towing and compounds are worth it, as one can gain "larger" single air flow, with sooner air flow.

Non towing, and it becomes a driving preference. Compounds is not needed to give the ve the air it is happy with. Compounds actually spool slower when laying down the hammer than a single, but they do give more air in the lower rpm.

Mate to the Super B, as far as another turbo? S472 1.10 T6 housing with 83 turbine wheel. You'll want quite a bit more injector for compounds.
