Got the sp144 wrench while I was in school, bumped the pump about 3/32".

By far what stands out most to me is how much less pedal I have to use to maintain the same speed. Pretty much everything else was about like I thought: slight drop in eggs, slight increase in rattle, lose a little on the bottom and gain a little on the top. Curious to check mpg.

Looks like overall the old girl is averaging about .75 to 1 mpg better after the timing bump. Mind you a 3/32" probably only puts static timing at about what a stock non IC truck runs.

At what point does excessive inlet pressure to the IP affect the base timing piston position? On an old thread, someone stated after about 7 psi inlet pressure, the timing piston would not return to the fully retarted position or something?

I'm sure altering case pressure remedies that?

Seeing as the vane-pump of the IP takes the fuel-pressure up to what? 30, 40, 50psig at idle (I can't remember), the incoming fuel-pressure would need to be above that in theory.

BC do you know about what point base timing is altered by inlet pressure?

I ran the screw in another 3/4 turn the other day and the turbo really whines now. I need a boost gauge.

Im super careful about not getting on the throttle until operating temp is stabilized. I'd like to get the spacer but I do worry about the HG in the back of my mind.

I know it's considered mostly ok to run the spacer and a small bump to about 30 psi or so, but if I pop the HG I know it would be some time before I could get it fixed, especially if I studded it like I'd like to.

If I rétorque stock headbolts, should I take one bolt out at a time to clean/prep then retorque? Or can I just click the torque wrench on each headbolt as they sit?

I'm sort of in the same boat - have a spacer waiting but did not want to install until I did gasket/studs

Been running at 45 psi with pump turned to head, not to mention the 6x13s over fuel the 351 a bit. 315k on stock HG

Personally I wouldn't reuse the stock bolts

Cheaper option is 12.9 Allen socket bolts, on eBay for $75-$100. They are a full 12mm as opposed to the 11mm shank on stockers.

I used them on my 01 ppump motor @120ft lbs with moly lube, slightly less torque on the 6 longer rocker bolts. I would definitely bottom tap the holes.

Thank you sir, I'll look into them. I'm pretty sure I'm airing far on the cautious side (as I tend to), but every now and again I'll stumble across a thread some where where his aunts brothers grandma popped the HG at 30 psi with a skipped tooth.....so I'm skeered :D

Maybe I'm on borrowed time or just extremely lucky.....but,I hit 30/35psi often pulling trailers on a felpro gasket and felpro replacement bolts torqued to 135#. Skipped a tooth with 1/8 bump,366 spring in the pump and 5x12 equivalent injectors. I can touch 40# beating on it......that I don't do by choice

I believe being at full stabilized temp before beating has a lot to do with HG health, what y'all think?

Absolutely!
I had the front corner weep for quite a while, and was running 35 or so psi of boost, but when I jumped the timing up to 2.25 it started to leak pretty good. I backed the timing down to 1.85 (a little over the 1/8th") and made sure I didn't get on it until it was warmed up. I planed, o-ringed and studded it and it's been fine since. I have been known to get on it cold and hit 35 or 40 psi and it's been fine.

50-60*, start it up, run for about a minute to get to the gate at work, then blot out the sun to the corner. Hence the
