Case pressure regulation

Postby spencerdiesel » Sun Dec 27, 2015 2:23 pm

At what psi does the little piston/spring open at, to bleed excess fuel pressure off? Is there any gain to be had by a higher psi opening pressure valve?

Since X number of case pressure pushes the timing piston to full advance, increasing case pressure would just render the dynamic timing advance useless right?

In theory, if one could allow farther travel of the timing piston, what else would need to be done to allow more timing sweep?

Also, what does the speed sensor that operates based on driveshaft speed do?

What effect would a different width control sleeve have on fuel delivery?

Pretty sure BC tested different DV's before, but do the factory DV springs restrict any fuel flow to the injectors at all? Would weaker DV springs just allow fuel to wash back into the IP?

Depends on the rpm.........factory is about 60-110, ksb makes it go higher.

If one plays with the pressure regulator valve......one should also play with timing spring or at least shims. Problem is with shimming it can result in a bind, and therefore not giving the same sweep.

One also has to look at the fact that if one raises pressure too high, the percentage of sweep may lessen. Therefore not allowing for full sweep with a proper spring.

80 at idle, I find, is the best for best swing percentage. I've ran as high as 160 at idle........

Eric.....how does one adjust the case pressure? I know you read it thru the kill solenoid hole but have wondered how they adjust it.

BC has some pictures in one of his threads.............but that line that goes from the ksb back up to the pump....... where it goes into the pump is a funny looking fitting. The center of that is round, you literally just knock the round part down.

A "little dab will do ya" Literally like a 1/16" (guessing but close) will increase pressure by like 30 psi.

Thanks Eric. Does the factory sleeve (on the plunger) allow all the fuel one could hope to get?

Not following you? You mean on the h/r? Or are you referring to case pressure still?

The sleeve that is affected by fuel screw position. Slides over the plunger that is moved by the cam plate

It controls duration. If a pump is hitting runaway, no more duration can be had without changing out parts (such as fulcrum lever). No aftermarket parts are available for these things.

Alright. Though losing the biggest advantage of the VE (dynamic timing), would massive amounts of case pressure net some power gain?

Case pressure is what is amplified by the rotor... It's gotta give more power, right?

I have some gutted shut-off solenoids with fittings welded into them if anybody's interested. I'll be digging through my garage shortly here, might be able to find them...
