2nd gen intke horn on 1st gen?

Postby jmos4 » Sun Feb 07, 2016 12:29 pm

Hi all,

Gathering a little information about adding a intercooler on a 89 truck and was thinking of getting a 94-97 intake, will it bolt on directly or do I need to change the intake plate?

Will the stock grid heater work?

Regards,

Yes, it will bolt right on and you can keep the heater. On an '89 I think you have to turn the intake plate around.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

The 2nd gen 24 valve intake horns do not have the big support wing on them. They will work also.

Do not use a 3rd gen intake horn. It is very restrictive inside.

Here is a pic of a 2nd gen 24 valve air horn on my truck.

You can run the intake plate in the stock location, you'll have to cut the "leg" off the intake horn. Here is what is on my truck, taken when I was mocking everything up.

All of the 2nd gen intercooler tubing, hoses, etc will fit right in...

I did have to notch the battery tray a little so that the tubing pictured above would fit without rubbing...
