Fuelling an HE351CW

Postby Kobane » Sat Mar 26, 2016 7:50 pm

I'm looking at Power Driven Diesel budget builder injectors. I will be tuning the pump via Denny T Stage 2 pin, timing advance, and fuel adjustments.

I don't want very much smoke, some good power and reliability with this turbo is the desired outcome. Maybe 400whp ish if possible, if less it's not the end of the world. It's a 93 engine with a518 auto. This truck will be a mixture of a DD, a street brute, and of course a used 4x4. It will be in a 78' F150 single cab, short box, with 1 ton axles, 3.73

What size of injectors would you use, I don't want to use compounds, I want simplicity, and reliability, and usability. Not towing more than 2K lbs

The stage 2 pin is a bad idea if you don't want a lot of smoke. It gives you no real afc adjustment. Just full fuel right from the get go. You'd be better off with a hungry diesel pin, or a bd diesel pin if you want cleanliness.

5x11's, or 5x12's would be my suggestion.

Some people would argue a 351 wouldn't be well suited with an auto when shooting for a lot of power.

Hmm that's good to know guys, thanks for the advice. I got the turbo for free, and I hear it spools lightning quick. The a518 is what is in th swap truck, but it isn't the be all end all. I am also seriously considering an nv4500 so that's an option as well. If the turbo will work better with the HE then that's yet another plus in the standard side. I was looking at building the 518 but am seeing a lot of expenses. Might just hit up high-impact and run their conversion kit for the NV and be done with it. Cheers gents

Also if you were in my shoes what injectors would you use? I'm not scared of cost, as smokey diesels are very fround upon here and attract attention from the wrong people. And with a 4 link and Super Duty axles under the truck it may be liable to getting an inspection.

Well, I have compounds, so I'm opting to run honed out 5x16's that I've had for a while now. My suggestion for a single stands though honing some stock 6x9's is also a decent option

As both Dman and RC have suggested, a 6 hole injector of similar flow will have cleaner low end characteristics than a 4 or 5 hole. An auto only has to be lit once (in varying conditions), where a standard equipped truck has to spool every shift.

I believe THD is a great route to go for injectors, specializing in 1st gens.

PDD can also set you up with some great injectors, call them both and go with who ever you like to he best. I have parts from both and have been very happy with the service from both.
