Differences between IC and non IC H1C

Postby Jdk » Sun Dec 30, 2018 9:46 pm

I was wondering what the differences are between the H1c from both IC and non IC, I’ve been putting together parts to install a 7.3 PS IC on my truck(1990) and a Amsoil 4510 with 4” tubing CAI, but then I read the non IC air intake is only 3” as opposed to 4” on the IC trucks, is this true?

So far the differences I have found:
IC(big H1c?): 8 blade, 54mm compressor wheel
NON IC: 7 blade, 50mm compressor wheel

I was thinking about upgrading my compressor wheel to the 60mm, but the site I found a kit on lists that is is only compatible with Factory IC trucks: https://gillettdiesel.com/shop/Holset-H ... 60mm-CH-05

I plan on upgrading to a 62sxe at some point when i feel like dropping the money on a upgraded clutch, head studs, 4” exhaust and some honed marine 370s from THD so figured I’d future proof my intake and intercooler.

Thanks in advance

EDIT: Found in a post on a different forum regarding the differences:

H1C non IC - 50 mm inducer(small side) 83 mm exducer(large side) on the compressor, 70 mm inducer (big side) 60 mm exducer (small side) on the turbine 18 cm housing

H1C IC - 56 mm inducer, 83 mm exducer on the compressor, 70 mm inducer, 60 mm exducer on turbine 21 cm housing

WH1C - same as IC H1C, with a 12 cm wastegated housing

94-98 HX35 - 54 mm inducer, 83 mm exducer on the compressor, 70mm inducer, 60 mm exducer on turbine

98.5-02 HX35 - 7 blade 54 mm inducer, 78 mm exducer on compressor, 70 mm inducer, 60 mm exducer on turbine

Only difference between n/ic and ic h1c is 50mm/54mm compressor wheel, smaller intake on the baby h1c (the 50mm), and of course the 21cm turbine housing on the 91.5-92 trucks. There may be some rare 56mm later h1c's. Hx35 has a 56mm compressor, early 94 wh1c had a 54mm compressor, and a 12cm gated ex housing. 98-02 hy35 has the 54mm wheel and a single volute turbine housing, like a he341.

Thanks Remps.

guess I need to grab a 4” to 3” 45* reducer to make my intake work with the baby h1c.

Actual turbine wheel measurements vary 2-3mm on inducer, and exducer for seemingly no reason. Of course that’s nothing useful that hasn’t already been mentioned, but I’ve measured a few over the years, and it’s just something I’ve noticed.

Hy35’s also only came on automatic equipped vp44 trucks. For some reason I want to say they only on the last few years of 2nd gens though.

H1c, hx35, hy35, he351cw, he351ve. All similar, but I have yet to measure 2 exactly the same.
