How to make it go fast

He is actually a fairly easy driver. The drivetrains are very reliable at 400-450rwhp, beyond that if you are actually using that much power you can and should expect a lot more wear and carnage. By saying 600rwhp isn't low I am thinking about how there were only 3 trucks out of almost 150 that dynoed at Scheid diesel extravaganza that were over 600rwhp on #2 only, and none of those were trailer towers, only play trucks.

1) i dont have a 5600 (i have a 4500, two of them actually) The 4500 is stronger in 4th, every other gear is weaker.

1a) i also have a gv splitter so i dont have to tow in 5th

2) neither of my trucks run a transfer case Well you won't break that then. :)

3) are you saying 550 hp will kill a D80 locker? or is he using factory parts? or is it rippin the teeth off the ring and or pinion?? there is always a solution, then you just move to the next weakest link The Dana Spider gears don't do well with 1000ft-lb and a big load, they look like gravel. ;-)

4) i am the head gskt master! from screwing around with 1200cc motors, making them run 6.70's @ 210 mph (1/4 mile), i have some tricks up my sleeve for head gskt sealing issues

Since no one else asked, why were you after a second gen? If it was me, I'd keep both trucks, tow the 2nd gen and go hog wild on the 1st gen. 628 rwhp would be your goal (note that that is 1 more than KTA's 89 made). Then I'd say you maxed it out. Although if Ford69557 has his way, that bar should be a lot higher in a few months.

i am the national motorcycle racing association top gas champion

dove into the class three years ago and won the championship the last three years

the NMRA is really only west coast tho

there are a few other sanctioning bodies, and they all contest the top gas class

top gas is the quickest index class for motorcycle drag racing. its comprised of a bunch of detuned prostock bikes that run between 7.50-7.90 in the quarter. the index is 8.20 so we have to slow them down to that. it becomes a tuner, rider, builder game with maybe more emphesis on the tuner and rider. i love the class, am obsessed with it

ama (american motorcycle assoc) has thier sanctioning body (ama dragbike) but they dont come west of the big muddy. they do get a larger turn out then we do out here (dont know why?) but this year i am going to try to go back there and fkcu them east coast boys up on their own tracks. i am doing it for me. i have nothing to prove to no one

and i definately have nothing to prove to no one in the truck world

i love to tinker love the feeling of having the torque there if need be and need a truck to pull my trailer

that is pretty much where it ends

don

ps - i do still get off passing my buddys rig when climbing a grade tho...

lol

but the rest of the time i drive my trucks pretty easy, maybe really easy?, and try not to beat up on them too much = 4th gear over 62 mph minimal throttle and hopefully some incredible fuel milage

and here I thought my '04 600rr was fast...I've always thought running the drag bikes seemed INSANE but came to realize it's far safer than riding a sport bike on the street!

I guess if you build your truck at 400, you'll want to push it just a bit more to 450, then just a bit more to 550, then just a bit more over 6hundo...it's so easy to just do one more thing for a little more power; I don't know if it's possible to stop!

you will know why in 6 months to a year when i post the dyno results

this one i will dyno tune

cuz this is the truck that started the whole truck high hp wars thing. this truck has the most potential of all the mech inj trucks. i dont want 1000 rwhp (yet) but if i did this is the truck to do it with. the piston design and the ip design are the bomb

didn't realize you really wanted to go crazy on a truck. then yeah, the 2nd gen's the one to do that with if you want an all out mech pump.

yes to the first part, and i dont know either to the second part

lol

i think you can get 300cc of fuel out of a 913 pump w/o going inside of it pretty easy

that is enough fuel for 600 rwhp IF you have the air to burn it

and just cuz there is 600 hp avail at the pedal does not mean i have to mash it every time i pull away from a stop

esp loaded to 33k#

don

ps - first pass i made on a drag bike was 5 yrs ago

i was 40 and it almost killed me

long story but that is the punch line - almost got me killed - in 8 seconds

pps - second pass was a perfect 8.90 pass (it was a super comp bike that left really hard) (1.18 60') have had several close calls since but nothing like that first pass. climbed right off a '03 gsxr 1000 (1.68 best 60') onto that s/c bike. i will tell ya the whole story sometime but bottom line is dont do that. get on a 9.50 bike first. something that sixties around a 1.35

So where'd the tcase go? You runnin a chain drive or are you just 2wd? If you're not using that d60 I can come swap a 44 in there for you. :D

I'm not really a 2nd gen guy(sold a 98 5 years ago to get a 93), but that is a nice looking truck.

Fair enough. Always interests me when someone wants to leave the 1st gen flock. Read lots of posts from people that say they wish they'd never sold their 1st gen. Good luck with your future endeavors.

that is the 2nd 205 thats been in my storage

first one needed work and went in the scrap bin

this one is nice

was gonna put a ford straight axel in it with 4 link and bags til i found out what it would cost

i was not a 2nd gen guy either, but if you want a 426 hemi, hemi 4 speed and a dana 60 you 'settle' for a 69 charger or what ever boat you can get it in, right? same applies here

oh, and thanks - it looked better in person than it did on craigs list

i dont like em either - i love them

i loaned my best friend half the cash for a 600 back in 1982

he died on that bike in '83

was the preachers son, whole nine yards, very sad part of my life, still think about him often

thought about giving up bikes back then but i didnt think that is what he would have wanted and i guess it wasnt what i wanted either, or i would have done it
