please dont chew me out but this question is in regards to my '97

no wonder the plug for the trailer wont do anything but the brakes and running lites....there are only 2 wires connected up under rr of truck (lol)

anything i should be concerned with when hooking this thing up?

do i need to buy one of those boxes for tying it in?

do i need to install relays?

can the 2nd gen system handle the extra current of a rather large trailer with the double tail lights (mounted both high n low)?

thanks in adv (wiring is not my strong suit)

I would post that in "Electrical" for better response and for archive purposes.

Check to see if the truck got the chrysler mod that puts a relay on the headlight switch. These are known to fail under high loads. I had a buddy whose 96 burned the dash up after the switch melted from too much load pulling a trailer. Chrysler did a recall to put the switch on a relay to eliminate the problem but there are plenty that didn't get done.

ahhhh

good info right there

how can i tell brian?

tell ya this - the big red wire (of the 7 pin harness) had been cut n spliced twice before, and when i got the truck it was cut and left hangin there!

that kinda tells me there were issues

but who knows if it was with dudes trailer or what?

like i said, all the wires going to the second plug, the one in the bed, i think 6 pin(?), they were all just hangin there

i will check for a relay if you point me where to look - with the truck idling and the lights on the rpm drops a little when i plug my trailer in

>?

thanks, don

The relay is in the dash behind or beside the light switch.
