I had the 14mm head and rotors custom built primarily as a performance/competiton part. I havent had any issues with the 2 of mine I have on and running, but some people have, and some people have not. I have not been able to determine the exact cause of failure of the ones that did. I believe it is probably a combination of things, and that is why some people dont have any problems and othes cant get one to last long enough to make it to the grocery. I think they would live fine in the sub 500rwhp range without alot of fuel system upgrades, but to tun more than 500rwhp it requires several mods to go along with the pump to make it work.

I have a few of them left, they are $400 + shipping. No one makes them, they were a one off batch. I could get more made if there was demand, but there certainly hasnt been. There were 20 of them made 3 years ago and I still havent sold all of them. It is a pretty extreme part and I dont recommend it for people that use their trucks alot or it is their only transportation. It is a cheap 100hp, but reliability is questionable, no warranties.

Them 'several mods' must be what I'm lacking as I haven't gone past 500rwhp  .

I'd love to have another 14mm pump for backup. But wouldn't we all :P .

Back on this again. I recieved my 14mm H&R yesterday. (Thanks Brian) After some time talking with others about pump setup I was going to have a local injection shop do the setup work on my pump because I do not have the button shim that goes between the cam plate and plunger. But every time I go talk to them I leave feeling like a bumb a$$. Not because I am not particularly bright, but when ever I pull in there the guy behind the counter is asking why my truck sounds like that? Or what are you trying to do? When I explain what I want to do they act like I am nuts and I am just making this stuff up. I guess I should leave it stock and let them work on it when it needs it.
Long story short. I have been just fine being ignorent of the "proper way" of doing pump work and have had good success by following the lead of guys who have gone before me. I am just bugged now because I just want to work on my stuff and buy parts without the attitude. I understand if someone is trying to help and try to explain the whys and wherefors but the sidways looks and puzzled faces just annoy me.
Rant over.

Is that the standard question at pump shops? "What are you trying to do?" I heard it from both of the local shops when I was looking for my 366 spring. When I explained that I wanted to raise the rpm that the pump de-fuels at, they looked at me like I was a flippin retard or something. "Why would you want to do that? The ve is about maxed out at the stock 160 hp. It won't flow any more fuel than that, and just isn't a good pump for making power. More suited to VW's." "O.K., thanks for the info" I said when I left, spring in hand. I proceeded to black out the neighborhood on my way out with my little ve. Sure looked like more than 160hp worth of fuel, but I've been wrong before.....

I've been kinda lucky with my local pump shop. the wall behind his desk is covered in training certificates from bosch, stanadyne, etc. he really knows pumps (been at it for 30 years). when i first started haging around i got the same treatment ya'll are seeing, but he was tolerant of me and even showed me how to disassemble and reassemble a ve. i think the factory training centers REALLY beat it into thier heads that a pump will not survive unless it's set up exactly as in the book. combine that with the fact they have to fight warranty claims from people such as us who modify a perfectly good working pump, and you have a cautious person to say the least  .

on a side note, has anyone seen someone working at a pump shop who's less than 25 years old. i've only seen the old farts who've been doing it for decades. this looks like it may be a dying profession.

For the most part, the pump tech are brainwashed via the technical training. The pumps are built to specifics and for specific appliations. They don't know any better becasue they are trained in a particular matter. Don't blame them.........

As for the pump head. It's my proffessional opinion that some folk don't know what they are doing. As a manufacturer, you can make the best component in the world and if your customers are not qualified to do the install/set-up , it won't last.

I have assembled pumps for people who simply don't know much. It is quality work on my part. However, if you can't install the pump correctly, it simply won't operate properly. Don't blame me :x

Also it is my understanding that the 14mm h&rs are sold out. Correct?
