Played with a little nitro today....

Postby JQmile » Sun Mar 02, 2008 8:22 pm

There was a thread over on DTR about a guy who got a 100hp gain on a 300hp motor running like 3-4% nitro, so I decided to try a little....

Here's what happened....

I bit the bullet and poured in a quart of 20% nitro (R/C fuel) into about a quarter tank of diesel and rocked the truck to try and mix it in. By my figuring it was about 1% nitro. Truck seemed to run the same for a few minutes then the nitro hit the motor.....it started to idle a little rough and the pitch did change. I hit it a few times and didn't notice anything life changing. The weird idle freaked me out and I went at put a bunch more #2 in. Truck started a little hard when I went to start it up, but started after about 10 seconds of cranking. Not sure whether I will keep playing with the nitro or not it's pretty nerve racking stuff, I think it might take more to make any big difference. Crusing EGTs seemed a little higher, and the truck seemed to smoke a little less, but other than that I didn't notice any big difference. Two percent? 8)

I didn't breathe when I poured it in :D

The stuff I used was like 20% nitro, 60% meth, and 20% lubricants and other stuff.

Huh....why am I not surprised you're going to try something like that  .....I heard about 3-4% is all that will mix in with diesel so watch out. Also make sure you're willing to pay the price (melted pistons) let me know what happens if you actually do it though!

I talked to a buddy that ran 5% in his quad and he said he had to go up ten jet sizes to get it to run right (most power) since most diesels overfuel anyhow, it seems like I should work even better in them!

Weird...maybe the nitro hasn't hit the motor yet? Did you notice a change in pitch when the truck was idling?

If you drove 30 miles, it's in there. What do you get 15, 18 mpg? So theres 2 gallons it went thru, and the filter only holds a quart, so I'm sure it's in the pump now. Maybe with your bigger injectors, it doesn't notice it so much.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.
