Freshening the injector pump, questions.

Postby apwatson50 » Tue Mar 04, 2008 8:38 am

I picked up a core pump and am in the process of replacing all of the seals, and anything that is worn. I am going to install the high rpm plunger return springs, and new governor return springs.

Is there anything else internally that commonly wears out that should be replaced?

Also I got the standard bosh seal kit and the input shaft seal appears to be the correct size. Does this sound right? It seems to me that other people have found this seal to be the wrong size.

Also I thought I had read about a timing piston cover that allowed more movement of the piston. Anyone know where I could acquire one?

Thanks, Aaron

PB used to say replace the cam plate, roller ring and associated parts. I would imagine it's all high dollar considering what smaller Bosch parts cost. If you bought the genuine Bosch dgk-121 kit, you got the correct pump shaft seal. If not, then you might get lucky.

So is the camplate typically what goes bad in these pumps? Also what is the "roller ring"? What are the other associated parts?

I am going to stop at the bosch distributor tonight and i'll get prices on the camplate, etc..

I did get the genuine bosch kit and the shaft seal looks correct. I did some reading and it sounds like the ve pumps with the smaller plungers, like 9mm and smaller, had a smaller 17mm input shaft vs our 20mm input shaft. I haven't verified that our shaft is 20mm but will.

thanks, Aaron

You mean you haven't fully read and understood the VE manual and all of the VE pump breakdowns via the internet? It's all there. I have mine all printed out and in a three ring binder.
