runaway ??????

Postby CAJUN 93 » Wed Mar 12, 2008 9:45 am

ok, installed a 3200 spring in a members truck saturday. removed collar and ran fuel screw in. it seemed to bottom out very quickly. reinstalled and cranked vehicle. runs great, snap throttle and it returns normally, no indication of runaway at all.

now its wendesday morning and he calls me and tells me it took of on the highway like the cruise hit resume. he pulls over and the throttles wide open. he shuts it off with the lever on the side of the pump (i'm glad i showed him that saturday ). now when he cranks it it revs until he shuts it off with the lever.

my ???????. can something go wrong in the pump after 3 days of steady driving that will cause a runaway condition. maybe something stuck in the pump and just broke loose?? any ideas. he's having it towed to his house and i'm gonna go check it out this evening. just some thoughts....

thanks
daryl

Sounds like the throttle shaft is binding somehow. Or the linkage anyway. I doubt it's in the pump.

i wrenched my brain at lunch and i'm thinking the idle screw backed off. he noticed it as he was getting off the highway after about 35 miles of steady speed. i took the screw all the way out and reversed it and i tightened the nut with a punch like always but maybe it vibrated loose while driving. i hope thats all it is.

ps. i dont think it's in the pump either. it kills right away with the lever and its not surgeing like its bouncing on the governor.

After adjusting my idle screw one time it had a tendency to vibrate in so I got rid of it. ;)

well thats exactly what happened. idle screw moved forward and increased the idle to about 2000  . it's double nutted and lock tighted now. :D

thanks for all the input

Turn the fuel screw in till it idles the way you like, then toss the idle screw in the glove box. 8)

I was able to get away without the low idle screw before I got my pump rebuilt, now I need about a 1/4 inch.

I idle mine at 800. It kinda pushes on ya a bit in gear but it's always ready to go.
