Biodiesel???

Postby hassy21 » Mon Mar 24, 2008 2:57 am

What is the advantages and disadvantages of biodiesel? Do you get the hp? How much does it cost? What does it do to your mileage? If you get the machine how much would it cost? How much a gallon? Is it worth it?

First before you or anyone jumps into making bio to save money.. you need to search google and read as much info as possible.. or search for a local bio co-op to help you learn.

advantages = cheaper then #2 , mine 92 runs smooth or bio then #2

disadvantages = takes time to collect the grease, and make it, also hard to find a source to get the grease.

you DO NOT get any HP gain.. but I have not seen any HP losses either

my mileage has not changed at all with BIO

most kits cost about $3000 if you were to just buy one for a reseller
but if you do the research you can build it for much less. but of course it will take time to get it all set up .. and if you have never brewed before you need to learn what goes were and which way the pump needs to pump when mixing, etc

right now for the bio co-op I am part of it cost us $1.50 per gallon.
that is pretty much what the methanol and lye cost.. and we buy it in 50 gallon drums.
also our electricity is FREE because we have solar power and a wind mill making power for us.
so if you were to factor in the time fuel, and electricty into that cost it would cost a bunch more.

for me it is worth it..

I have also built a 50 gallong tank that goes in place of my spare tire that I am going to run straight WVO in.. so for when i take road trips I will have 50 gallons on WVO and about 30 gallons of BIO.. that pretty much can get me to any 4x4 wheeling location and atleast half way back.. my next thing to build is away to carry an extra 50 gallons of WVO for the ride home.. but I do not want to carry it on the trailer cause I do nto want to change my tongue weight, etc

Hope this answers some of your question
