Has anyone ever advanced the cam timing on a 6bt like they do on the 855 cummins
1991 D250 reg. cab 518
4" turbo back,pump turned up,bumped timing,intercooler,HX52,366 spring,ground AFC lever,piston lift pump,Goerend converter,M/T ET street radials,nitrous,lowered.

You can time the cam wherever you so desire as long as you have enough piston to valve clearance.

Just remember that advancing the cam timing gives you more low rpm power but kills the top.
Retarding sacrifices low end torque for high end HP.
Unless somebody has done some dyno test and tune, I would just degree the cam to make sure it's timed the way the factory intended. I know in the gasser world, cam timing can vary, so it's always a good idea to check it while the motor is apart.

Advancing cam timing has an opposite affect as advancing pump timing?

Because, for pump timing, advancing gives you top-end at the expense of bottom end...
1990 D-250 Regular Cab: Tweaked injection pump, built transmission, a cataclysmic charlie foxtrot of electronics, the most intense street-ran water injection system in the country, and some more unique stuff.

That's correct. I always remembered it because cam timing was the opposite of ignition timing, same as pump timing.

on this subject, ive had alot of people tell me i should advance my pum timing.
but i just dont understand what exactly it would do for me.
any recomendations?
1991 D350, reg cab, five speed, 4" dp 5" mitre cuts, 32 gsk, pump max, piston lp, POD injectors, S300, 3" cooler tubz, coolingmist, boost, pyro and tach... dually rockstars black, and custom fit 2nd gen towing mirrors

So you advance the heck outta your pump timing to get high rpm power.



You then lose your bottom end... SO advance your cam to get your low end power back.....
