Big old bottom Turbo

Postby VEfreak » Mon May 26, 2008 6:53 pm

Hey, I'm gonna run a twin setup on my IC 91.5, and i was wondering what real good options are for a bottom turbo. I know the HT3B is easy and classic, but what else is there. I was also thinkin maybe an HC5A, and i saw an HT80 but i think that is probably to freakin redunkulous. The goal is 80 psi of boost. And anything that can be salvage from heavy equipement is a plus. All opinions are appreciated. And do you think an HE341 off a 3rd gen would make a good top turbo? I've heard the spool faster and run cooler than an hx35/40 hybrid.

why an hx60 instead of an ht60? Beefier or more boost or better design?

Oh, and the s-300 with the 67mm turbine and 56mm compressor wheel aint worth a turd, right?

HT60's are dirt cheap, but hx60's are high dollar. HT is reverse rotation, hx is not;). What is the correct term for that style :? ? The hx60 could possibly make it easier to plumb. Ht3b is reverse as well. I'm gonna be running a 66 s300/14 and a s400.

What about an HC5A atop a WH2D. Spool wouldn't be that great, but with enough porting and fuel, the boost would be fricken incredible, in theory. I know the HC5A is monstrous and i've seen it as the bottom in setups that crank at 150 lbs of boost. I think it might be to big though, seeing as how a s400 was the top turbo. But does anyone here have any experience with the k31's? And an hx 60 is something to be considered. I'm just searching out a setup that will pump out 80 pounds of boost with the right fueling, something to make a full dyno pass with a four speed OD, or i might just change to a friggin stick, who knows.

Yes thats right also, an ht60 will crank out more then 80 pounds of boost, and is good for 850 racing hp, and a hx60 is a bit better

So I hear that "K31" is just another name for "HX55". Is that correct?

From my research, the only twins that have used a HY35 as a top turbo used a K31 as the bottom turbo...

A K31 is KKK branded turbo, it is not a Holset HX55 although they are similar sized. The K31 is a very good preforming turbo but has a pretty short life in race use.

i thought those were avail in a bunch of diff configs

what do you guys think would be a good single turbo for a 450 hp p-pump truck? (still has to tow) (i dont care if its a little laggy, almost always above 1800 rpm)

a buddy suggested a silver something 62-74
