holset hx-40w

Postby apwatson50 » Wed Jun 04, 2008 8:16 am

I found a hx-40w as a good possible candidate, however I want to make sure it has the right size turbine wheel and housing size.

The number is 3596295, can anybody tell me the size of the turbine wheel? I am fairly certain that the housing size is a 16.

thanks, Aaron

It's a 60mm compressor and if you're certain that it's a factory 16cm housing then it's the sought after HX40.

The housing size is cast into the exhaust inlet side of the housing on the HX40's.

How many blades does the compressor side have. A Super HX40 has 7.

Make sure it has a T3 flange on it.

It has a 6 blade compressor, so 60mm, also has a 16 stamped inside the exhaust housing, and its wastegated. Supposedly from a volvo. I went ahead and got it.

Also the backing plate on the exhaust housing isn't the band clamp type, its a flange with I think 6 bolts, which is fine as I can plasma a flange and weld a piece of 4in to it. Then have the flange milled flat. Or I suppose I could just find a backing plate with the band type connection.

Hope it keeps my egt's cool!

Just go get a good piece of 3/8 or 1/2" plate and drill the bolt holes and cut out the center. I didn't mill my torched flanges on my twins and I still have no leaks. I used some copper sheet and tapped out the gasket with a brass hammer.

I have access to a cnc plasma cutter, so i'll just make a .dxf file with all the holes and it'll be done.

I would imagine i'd be able to get the gasket from cummins, hopefully!

This is probably what i'd do as it'll be free.
