EDM 9mm injector nozzles

Postby sdstriper » Wed Jan 24, 2007 8:58 pm

Ok, there's a guy offering 9mm nozzles on ebay right now. He showed up on the DTR the other night when I was on there. Said he had four sets, they are matched pressures and volumes already. These are 9mm nozzles with 8 holes @ .011, they are EDM's. What is the Guru word on these. Last but not least they are $224 free shipping or you can send him your injectors and he'll set them up for you.

That is plenty cheap and they should work great assuming they arent junk.

Yahh well I already think the guy doesn't know sthi from shine-ola. Thanks to others in-the-know and my red alert crap detector.

I asked about set-up and getting a set with matching pressures and volumes, and he tells me they are already matched. It is just a set of nozzles. 4 sets and I see one has sold, so as far as we know it is just 3 sets now. Buyer beware I think.

I also like the prevailing wisdom of JLEONARD who's advice was to get a set of 7mm that will work with a new head, that you'll sure to end up with after getting a bigger set of injectors in the old style head...

For what it is worth the exhaust manifold ears broke off my 9mm head before the head cracked internally. It never started leaking coolant from internal cracks. Beware of running high egt's on the stock manifold, over time it will shrink so bad it will either shear the bolts off holding it to the head or it will break the ears off the head. I drilled all the holes out to 9/16 on my stock manifolds I still use so it has more movement before it starts breaking things. 8)

7mm tipped injectors will have a better resale value too. Not too many early head guys bombing etc. Or should say there's more late 1st gens etc.

Yeah, not too many people put a 9mm head back on when they replace one. Unless they get theirs fixed.

The nozzles are pop tested to ensure a balanced set. You will have to pop test them on your own injectors, as you may have to reshim or replace internal parts. If your injectors with your original nozzles pop within spec across the board, these 9mm performance nozzles will do the same. Our feedback on ebay speaks for itself. We don't intend to rip anyone off, but rather wanted to give some options for the early 12 v guys. I think others put it best, it may be better to get 7mm nozzles. We just figured the 9mm tip was robust, but due to other issues, they are not as popular. In any event, its something worth checking out. If someone on this board wants to try a set out and post their results, please PM and we can talk. It is recommended that you have other mods to handle the extra fuel.

Not too big of a shocker. It's a small world out there.

turbodiesel, lets make sure we understand each other. I don't think your intentions were to rip anyone off, and I did not say that. My statement was my opinion based on your answers from Private Messages on DTR. I'll post them (PM's) if necessary. You never answered my questions, other than to say they're matched already (nozzles).

If what I read here is how you "match" a set, my question has been answered. Within spec is a broad range. How close will you match them without specific request? For example minimum pop pressures of 221 bar and maximium 259 bar, that's quite a range to be within. When I asked your opinion of matching pressures and spray patterns and you state your nozzles are matched already, you can bet I'm not the only guy that would raise an eyebrow.

If he is only making the nozzles, he cant match the pop pressures, as he lacks the bodies to put them in. If they flow the same rate (i.e. same hole size, number, and angles), it is up to the individual/ injection shop to set the pop pressures to a narrow band. Cut him some slack. I sure didnt expect him to be able to determine how they are balanced if he only makes a part of the total equation.

However, I would like to know if he has a way to test the nozzle and needle valve seating after EDMing them. Or is that a non-issue?
