Fuel screw vs pop pressure

Postby VEfreak » Fri Oct 17, 2008 1:33 pm

Now correct me if i'm wrong, but when you turn up the fuel screw it increases injection pressure right? So if i send my injectors to get extrude honed(i'm a cheap bastard) should i have the pop pressures reset, because my pump is turned up?

Negative. Standard pop pressure for a VE pump. If you up the pop, then the pump eats itself. VE's don't like to push high pressure.

Can we lower pop pressure to aid top end fueling??

Hmmmm, I don't know! :?
I know lowering it will be like advancing the timing, because they'll pop sooner. I think it won't be as effective as it sounds, the fuel won't atomize as well at the lower pressure.
Same thoughts I had when the guy wanted to turn his fuel screw way out, not enough fuel to atomize properly.

yeah, that's exactly why i wanted to know if you could turn the pop up! Better atomization will aid the smoke all these things make and raise the ceiling on horsepower potential.

I'm sorta in the same boat right now with pop pressure. Right now I know, don't have them set higher than stock!

I've seen them popping at 3550psi and 3800psi on the stand, and I cant tell a lick of difference (both are really fine), but the pump sure can. I'd say set them no higher than stock, maybe even a little lower (32-3400?). Just be sure not to get too low, as the fuel may not atomize well, like Pete suggested. I have a set sitting at the local shop that I said to set to 3500psi. Not enough to lower atomization, but enough to maybe relieve some pressure on the pump.

The POD,s which have been in use for years now, are much higher then stock setting. They function well @ 260 Bar. Ity's why one must advance the time to operate them.
