I tap the exhuast side shaft(I know, I know!), it doesnt work. put the turbo in the vice and try to tap housing off all the way around, like TST says. it dont work. finally, I heat the old housing with the torch and really start to hit it harder. GENTLY harder. It finally comes off. I was spinning the intake side while doing all this . never jammed any blades on the housings, not enough to stop them hard anyways.
Got it back together, put a little oil in the hi press. side inlet. Fired it up, sounded good. took it out, idled it around and took it to the main road.
rolled on the throttle a little bit and got 10-12 lbs. fast then IT DROPS IN 5 SECONDS to ZERO. F#$% What happened? I idled to the shop, and killed it with the hood up. As the turbo wound down, it wasnt the regular high pitched whistle. More of a lower whiiiiiiirrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Checked the intake side and it spins okay. a tiny bit stiffer than stock.
Quit it for the night.
did I bend the shaft tapping it? screw the journal bearings? Do I have to rebuild it now? F%#*
sorry for the book, I need some advice. I will tear into it tomorrow
P.S. I have learned a couple things
A. Dont listen to your buddy with no clue(welders!)
B. dont listen to your buddies friend or,
C. the closest local turbo guru or,
D. myself sometimes!
