New Diesel owner 92 w250

Postby Swaggs » Sat Jan 24, 2009 11:49 am

Whats up, I just got a 92 w250 club cab diesel with a 5 speed and about 125k on her.. I am currently in iraq, so its at my brothers house, he is doing the tune up stuff on her, new brakes, man. hub lockers, and putting in a borgeson shaft.. I have alot of time, and some money to put in her.. I need some good ideas, and where to start.. I have restored a camaro, and worked on just about everything, but diesel is pretty new to me.. Im thinking, gauges, fuel pin, injectors, VE pump tweaks, exhaust, intake, and the cooler tubes.... I hear that the weakest part of my truck is the getrag, how correct is that, how much can it stand up to? anyways guys, anything will help, i have about 2 more months over here, and then the fun starts.. later guys..

The getrag should be fine. The rest of ideas sound good.

I will let some other guys answer the injector question. I am still running stock ones so I have no experience with aftermarket ones. As far as the picture, go to the top of the main page and click on profile. Scroll down to the bottom and you will see the avitar control section. If you want a picture it must be real small size. I had to resize mine to get it to work. I don't remember all the steps but that should get you started.

If you want bigger injectors, than you better start looking at a bigger turbo as well. With the stock H1C and bigger injectors, things will get a little toasty.

Another mod you may want to consider for your truck is the 366 spring. It replaces the stock governor spring, and allows the pump to fuel up to 3200 RPM's.

ok, thanks guys.. yea, i have been looking around. i made a shopping cart at like pdp or somewhere, for the gauges and the spring, what do you guys think about the fuel pins? Diesel power mag just turned their stocker like 270 degrees and left it.. but, i was looking into those too.. So, a good turbo is an hx35?

Turning the fuel screw is a slight help. Don't assume you have to turn it a certain degrees. Mark where it was and take it out. Look for the deepest part of the pin. Turn it in your hand and you will see what I mean. You want to install it so the deepest is facing the front of the truck. Mine was only about 20 to 30 degrees from deepest. I did not really see any noticable gains. You can grind you pin to make it fuel harder. I think I am going to get a denny t or something like it. A hx 35 is slightly better then your stock rig. You would be better off getting a GDS 60mm upgrade compressor. After that you would step up to a hx 40 and slightly more money would be the entry level to the S300 borge warner turbo. It depends on what you want to spend.

As far as fuel pins, the best one on the market is the DennyT Stage II Fuel pin. I know a lot of guys just grind the stock pin, but I believe that even a heavily ground stock pin won't fuel as much as the DennyT pin.

An S300 would be a very good turbo, but they are a little costly. But it's better to spend the money once. 8)
