Pro 52 turbo

Postby bgilbert » Thu Mar 01, 2007 6:27 pm

Brian and others, what do you think about a Pro52 turbo with 16cm housing? A buddy of mine has one on his 93 pulling truck and wants to go bigger  . I could probly get it a decent price. I would need to get an adaptor made up or maybe get him to throw in the big foot ATS manifold he's got 8) . All I know about it is it has a 71mm compressor wheel, 16cm housing and some odd ball 4 9/16 exhaust outlet :?: :?: . I hear it is basically a hx55. It definately looks massive on the engine. It recently got new bearings and new turbine wheel IIRC. I guess those 70+psi passes it seen wasn't the best thing for it. It only has 3 passes on it since the overhaul.

Obviously I don't tow with this truck, so spool up isn't a concern. All I would be concerned with is whether or not it will spool on Dunbar's dyno    . I plan to swap in a stock afc foot to get more fuel delivery and got my eye on a new set of EDM's to help with the bigger turbo.

Idea's?

The pro52 is a good turbo and uses hx55 stuff. It is a very good turbocharger capable of running well at big boost, but anything over 60si is a handgrenade waiting to go for shure. Personally I would steer clear, and know them to be laggy turbos compared to the s300's but they will make mor power in general, but need good rpms to do it. To make good power with the rpm limited VE you need to make alot of power and boost down low, which reguires a good spooling setup. So dyno queen Bill does your HTT turbo have the 71mm exducer exhaust wheel? If not I would do that for your upgrade as that is probably worth 20rwhp or so. You need a cylinder head or cam next probably or you could go the cheap route and just twin it to win it. :)

Twin it to win it eh  . I'd like to go this route, but I'm worried it'll cost me an arm and a leg. And now that pulling season is around the corner, I'd be without the truck all summer and might not have it back even for Scheid's event in August if I dropped it off at JR's or with Josh at DPS. Josh says I should go with a HT3B, JR says HT4C. I don't wanna go too big nor too small. Would the HT3B be too small?

As for as my 66, it's got the 65mm exhaust wheel. I about choked when I heard I have to buy a new exhaust housing along with the new 71mm wheel to upgrade - $$$. Then again that might have been only if HTT did the upgrade themselves.

Cam, head upgrades, this is starting to sound expensive again LOL. Seems like this time last year the truck was eating a bunch of money   .

Well I recentely put on an hx 50 with a 22 cm housing and it lags hard until you put the pedal down. But when it lights it lights hard and you better hold on! As long as your not going to tow anything it would be fine if you have the fuel. Iv got edm ed injectors and limited pump work and it still decentely spools.
