3200 spring install/ afc lever removal

Postby 1dumrednek » Tue May 26, 2009 8:46 pm

i'm hoping to istall the 3200 rpm spring this weekend and while i'm in there i wanna rip out the afc lever. what worries me is at one point i thurned the afc spring pressure down and i couldn't get the idle down below 1000 rpm and i don't know what'll happen if the afc is totally gone. even when i adjusted the smoke screw it wouldn't idle down. fuel screw is in 2 1/2 turns (it actually bottoms out there. found that weird cuz i heard lots of guys turning them farther than that.) i'm also starting to wonder if this truck has bigger injectors in it when i bought t cuz with only the screw turned in it smokes ALOT! :D any ideas greatly appreciated

As far as I know, removing the lever does not affect idle speed. It adds fuel just off idle. Took my buddies afc lever out, and idle was the same. To get the idle down, just re-index the shaft one tooth and adjust with the screw stops from there. I got lots of smoke when I turned my smoke screw in with stock injectors. So much I turned the smoke screw back out because it would smoke even if I was just driving nice.

ya when i had the high idle problems i had the throttle lever right off the shaft and turned it as far down by hand as it would go and the idle still wouldn't go down. that's why i was worried

i put the spring in but i left the afc lever. (for now! :D) its wierd tho. now when you rev it up anywhere close to 2000 it just hangs there and takes forever to slow back down. that wouldn't be the spring eh? i'm guessing i got the fuel screw in just a touch too far. any ideas?

Yep, definitely close to runaway, back the fuel screw out a 1/2 turn and call it good.
