I know a lot is said about the two and the HX40 usually gets a bad rap. For years I have sung the praises of The Super Hx40 for properly fueled trucks, and it looks like looking at the maps that I was right.

I think the super HX40 is a great turbo that flows well, But its the weak shaft that did it in for me, I bark my Silver 62 ALOT. Weather or not I would have broke a HX40 I dont know, never had one, come to think of it never seen one broke either so who knows!

Oops I forgot to mention since Holset is in Europe those units are in metric so in actuality the peak mass flow for the Super Hx40 at 70% efficiency is 66lbs/m.

HAHA ya its a good thing you mentioned that Brian. I looked t the super 40 map and :shock:

I'm thinking this thing can flow 80lbs/min thats crazy. 66lbs sounds about right. Thats pretty good. Now keep in mind the map that is shown for the 62mm is probably the std 62mm not the borg warner with the extended tip compressor wheel. That increases top end flow a fair bit.

The S300 will be about 42psi, the Super Hx40 would be about 52psi, and the regular hx40 about 45psi.

Now this is for a "stock" S300. I wonder how an "aftermarket" S300 would fair. like a Super Phat shaft 62 or similar....

Can you upgrade a regular 40 to a super 40? Or is there more than just a compressor wheel/housing change?

Both the comp and turbine wheels are diffrent so no it can't be practicly done.

Can a cartridge be bought? Cheaper than a s300 62/71 cartridge? Not that I need a 40 or even have any 40 housings.
