GUAGE ????

Postby CAJUN 93 » Tue Mar 20, 2007 2:47 pm

ok, i'm getting new gages (autometer z-series). ? is on boost gage they have a 35 lb and a 60 lb. my truck is right at 30 lbs now. only mods left to do is exhaust and water meth. will these mods put me past 35 lbs? this is a pulling truck (camper or car trailer). there will not be twins or pod's etc. i just don't like the 60 lb gage, looks like a lot of unused gage with the scale i will be using really tightened up. 35 lb would be easier to read in the scale i will be using. opinions......

its up to you. 35 seems like it would be fine if your not going to be adding more fuel, but you must have more self control than me :D i dont know when to stop. 60 would of been better for me.

Get the 60 that way when you turn things up you don't have to buy a new one.

I agree- Id rather have it and not need it than need it and have to do it over again, this time correcting my original "conservatism". I went with a 40psi gauge, and if I ever grow enough cajones to put the pedal to the floor, I'll probably max it out.

I prefer to use a gauge that will nearly peak. I agree that a lot of unusewd gauge is not right. Nor is it accurate. I'd buy the 35 and then buy another when you need it. I have a 60# and drive like I should most of the time. Thus I use 2/10th of the gauge. The higher the guage the more generic the numbers. Like three hash marks between 0 and 5

I bought the 35 lb gauge, with the fuel screw in I can hit 33 easy. Then I went and bought the 60. You can buy it once, or buy it twice!

It is possible to hook up both a 35 and 60 PSI gauge on a twins set-up, correct? 35 only reads the bottom turbo, 60 reads the composite between the two?

ok, i decided at the last moment and bought the 35. installed it yesterday. weird how much faster it climbs than the isspro. both end up the same at 30 on a hard 4th gear run, but the autometer shoots up to 23-25 then slowly climbs to 30. the isspro climbed slowly across the whole scale. really made me feel my 16 cm housing was too big, now seeing how fast it climbs, maybe i don't need a 14cm.

on another note, the run above(started at 40 mph, lifted at 95  ) resulted in the pryo jumping to 1100 then slowly climbing to 1300. i really thought with the stg iv and intercooler it would be cooler.

Dont confuse accuracy and precision. They are two completely different things, and people often get them mixed up.

Accuracy is how the (in this case) gauge measures up against a set standard. I.E. when it says 20psi, it is actually 20psi, and not 19.75 or 21.0psi.

Precision is how small the measurements are. I.E. if it is in 1,2, or 5psi increments, and has absolutely nothing to do with accuracy.

But, I agree, I'd prefer to use 90% of the gauge if I can. But I dont like to peg a gauge if I dont have to, either. Shame no one seems to make 40 and 50psi boost gauges anymore.

1300 sounds pretty good with what you have for fuel.
