Cometic Head Gasket

Postby 90firstgen » Mon Apr 23, 2007 1:19 pm

I heard rumors of cometic making a head gasket for cummins. Anybody know if they have them out yet or whether they decided to make them for sure. I thought they were supposed to be out in february. This would be a nice alternative to o-ringing.

seems to me that they would be advertising it if they had one comming soon.

I am sure you could give them a call and ask

What's a cometic headgasket?

Does that mean that it comes all pretty looking with lip-stick and mascara?

No, but you can put some on it if you're swinging that way!

Cometic (not cosmetic) is a gasket co. best known for racing apps. The only ones I have any personal experience with was on my CR250 a few years ago. I remember them as being quality units. Got a cool sticker though. 8) Its still on my welding helmet.

Are they anything special, though?

If they're a potential replacement for O-rings, I would think that they're quite a leap beyond an OEM-style gasket?

It would be a wonderful replacement for o-rings. As far as running a single turbo it would be a cheaper and easier install for supporting over 50psi. Now if you went to twins and were running a lot more than that than I would still want o-rings. Here's a little bit of reading. More info throughout the site. These are huge in the gasser world.

You can see they have a built in oring

I had emailed them about 3 months ago about a 12v gasket, they said they were working on a 12v and 24v gasket. They also said look for it in about 1-2 months, but so far I haven't heard anything.

Ok, well I just got off the phone with cometic and they said they have an overvalver gasket in testing right now. But sadly they haven't started on a 12v yet. Also, if the 24 vlave gasket doesn't work then "We're probably going to scrap the whole project". He said another 3-6 months and they'll start testing a 12v HG if the 24v one works correctly. This saddens me

The problem with cometic gaskets is the requirments for the sealing surfaces. If you blow a stocker and put a cometic on without machining both surfaces it wont work. They would be awesome for an initial build, but not as a retrofit.

But they're not as good as O-rings no matter what, right?
