I've never heard of anyone offering a 5" system. I believe there are a few people running 5" systems, but they made them themselves. Why do you want a 5" exhaust anyways?

You'll probably have to make it yourself, but I have heard (on DTR I believe) that you can modify a 2nd Gen exhaust to fit on a 1st gen, and I know they make 5" systems for 2nd Gen's. A 4" system on these trucks is tight (especially on 4wd trucks) so a 5" is really pushing it.

Maybe go ask on DTR about modifying a 2nd Gen exhaust, because as far as I know no one here has done it, and I have no personal experience.

to put a 5 inch exhaust in you need to massage the firewall / bottom of cab and open up / modify the transmision cross member .

even a 4inch exhaust will be a very tight fit through the cross member , and may rattle even if things are done right .

i believe cummins king has pics posted around here somewhere where he massaged the floor of his cab to fit a 5 inch exhaust .

I agree, on a four wheel drive it would be much easier to make it 4" until the back of the cab and then 5". I've got a Stans 4" downpipe and an Expandit 5" 2nd gen kit on my two wheel drive. I had to use a short piece of flex after the downpipe to keep from hitting the crossmember, and I had to make my own hangers, but it looks and sounds great. It did take a little time to get it just right over the axle and around the shock because there is not much room to play with and I had to cut 6 or so inches off the end of the tail pipe. I got the Expandit kit from Dieseldawgs.com for $289.99 or so with free shipping, but after I bought it they ran a sale on it for $20 less. Haven't looked lately though. 8)

So you're confirming that with a little modification a 2nd Gen exhaust can be run on a 2wd 1st Gen? Should open a few more, cheaper doors for people in the market for exhausts if I read your post correctly. If that's the case, I wonder why so few people offer 1st Gen exhausts...?

Yes, with little modification a 2nd gen kit fit on my 2wd getrag (using a Stans 4" downpipe). An auto trans may be wider and cause problems. If my downpipe came down a little longer I wouldn't have needed the short piece of flex. A portable bandsaw took care of the tail pipe being too long. If I can get my wife to let me crawl under my truck with her new digital camera, I'll try to post a picture or two this week sometime.

I have a 5in from the t-case back, it`s all 2nd gen stuff. It fits fine but was definitely not bolt-in, then again the 4in that it replaced was`nt either.
It`s not about how hard ya hit...it`s about how hard ya can GET hit and keep movin forward.

Did it help to go from 4" to 5"? I was told it does, because it's the total volume of the exhaust system that matters. Yes? No?

4inch is plenty big right up to around 500 hp. Over that you may want to up size a little.
