Cam Grinds

Postby 2muchtq » Sun Jul 15, 2007 3:55 pm

I can get a cam reground from MUCH less than an aftermarket.

Is there ANY specs on a decent cam floating around?

Heck... I'd even settle for a spec sheet on the factory ones. I just need a starting spot.

Thanks
Mark

PS... I have a cam with a couple journals in sorry shape. Can a shop build them up and turn them to make it work?

Regrinds can work fine, but since you are going to have to change out lifters anyway it's safer to go with a new one, especially if it's a work truck as well as a play truck.

BUT. Unless I want to pony up the billet and have one custom made... I am stuck with aftermarket companies. While I am sure they all offer a good product. I can get three cams ground for what the aftermarkets cost.

I want to play with overlap... cam timing.... stuff like this.

I have a few theories about high timing numbers in trucks that will take a cam that I need to have made and set to my idea of proper timing. (dont worry... pistons will be decked to allow valve clearance)

Basically... I am NOT building a daily driver... I want the fastest first gen VE pumped truck down the 1/4 mile.

Buy a stock 12v cam core off ebay and get it ground to whatever specs you want.

The stock specs are what I am looking for.

Then... a decent starting point. From there I would like to play.

Thanks

Who ever is going to do your grinds should have a cam doctor and can check what the specs are on a stock cam for you provided of course you send them a good core to check. The other alternative is to take a degree wheel and a dial indicator and check it yourself, but I have found that method to be very difficult to get good repeatable results.
