what would be the biggest single turbo

Postby boostedve » Tue Jul 17, 2007 6:17 pm

what would be the BIGGEST single turbo you could run on a 6bta non ic, the pump is almost maxed out (4.5 turns on the fuel screw, afc spring and washer is out, stock fuel pin is to the deepest point, 366 spring, 5" turbo back,

right now with the stock injectors and a baby h1c running 35psi boost, 1250 pyro, running 15.08 at 88mph in the 1/4

this is for the dragstrip only.

and with the BIGGEST turbo what injectors would be best. i want around 500hp

last but not least hehe i wanna do it the cheapest way i can :D

You still have a ways to go on your pump. A little grinding here and a little shaving there. 500 HP out of a VE is RARE and only with major work and special parts.
Im running a HX35-40 hybrid with a 12cc Ex housing. I have my pump turned up a bit more than what you describe and after the initial black cloud spooling up it clears to a grey haze at WFO & 40 PSI. I think any bigger and I will block out the sun trying to spool.
Thats my 2 cents.

500 HP is rare, unless of course he goes over to the dark side.
The wet side.
The cool and fluid side.

Under which case, I don't think his turbo decisions are any different. You could get away with a larger turbine if you fired enough nitrous off the line.

Pump set to max, huge injectors and some NOS and you might get 500rwhp. 500rwhp on a stock parts pump #2 only has yet to be done. I was the closest with many runs in the 480's no correction factor, but never could get over the edge, actually 400+ #2 only on a single turbo is pretty rare. I can only think of 4 i know of and maybe 5 but i cant remember if #5 did it with water meth or not. regardless it is going to take some big custom injectors to get you even close to where you want to be power wise.

On my auto truck, I have a s300 from www.htturbo.com, known as their Sledpuller 66. With the Scheid injectors it spools instantly in the low 50's. Unfortunately it has a very small turbine wheel, so it's not gonna make a ton of HP with our lowly VE pumped 12 valves  . With a big turbine wheel, like the 71mm, along with the 66mm compressor wheel, maybe it would be a good HP charger. I've never dynoed this truck, but if it's still together after this weekend at the drag strip, I plan to dyno it at Scheid's event next month. I would like to join the elusive 400hp VE club with truck.

At one time I dynoed my 89 with this charger and Scheid injectors and put down 450hp. On my 89, I now have what's known as a Pro52, basically a hx50/55/h2e hybrid from what I've uncovered. It has a 71mm compressor wheel, and 68mm turbine wheel, 16cm housing. I plan to dyno it next weekend at IRP. Hopefully I can break 500hp single turbo only. Probly not gonna happen with a stock 12 valve head.

All that said, I think a good s300 of your choice, 66mm cold side, 71mm hot side, 14cm/.80ar housing, and a set of EDM's from Scheid or Buddha will at least get you started in the right direction. It's not gonna be cheap by any means. Then you'll want some extensive port and valve work to help it all flow;).
