Omaha NE to Cincinatti Ohio. This next week!

Postby Mark Nixon » Fri Apr 16, 2010 8:23 pm

Gotta' deliver the remains of a dead fish to the Cincinatti, Ohio area.

The route can can either take me through Iowa, then Indianapolis, then Cincinatti OR it can go KCMO, St. Louis, then Indianapolis and Cincinatti.

Would have extra room for a cab, fenders, doors, etc. on the way over, as the dead fish won't take up all of the length of the bed.
Would vary the route according to needs, as much as several hundred miles.

If anyone needs anything from Mark in Northern Ohio, I regularly drive from Cincinnati to Bowling Green, Ohio (near Toledo). I'd be happy to help transport some parts if needed. My commute vehicle right now is my Jeep (while I'm painting the 1st gen), but I may be able to make arrangements if something bigger needs transport. I could most likely also get some stuff to the TS event in Bowling Green, KY.

Hopefully this extra leg might be of help to someone.

It actually was a fairly smooth and QUICK trip.
Had a tire separate in the last 100 miles of the journey, changed it.

In the first 300 miles of the trip I had a fuel tank selector valve power supply issue (it worked loose), but in the process I found out that somone was under the truck, apparently stealing fuel, because I found a hose clamp loose on the main supply side of the switching valve.
The clamp maybe working LOOSE I could understand, but it was actually dangling there when I noticed it.
It was opened to the max.
Time for an electric fencer.
I'll either cure them or kill them.

Got the dead fish dropped off in Cincinatti, then beat it back to the Indianapolis area for 2 Dodges, one on the truck, one on a dolly.

Stopped in to deal on a dead '93 4wd at "Oldestof11's".
I had a car on the truck and one dollied behind, so I unloaded.
We stripped the body and what not, then I hauled the carcass in to the local scrapper on Monday.
Jon! I Wish I HAD kept the crossmember, turns out it's needed, now. :(

After that I ended up in South Dakota and dropped off the 2 cars I had on, a '69-1/2 6 Pack, 4 speed Super Bee and a 318 Coronet 500, then hoofed it to a buddy's yard to pick up a '91 4x4 body, for the 3.07 axles, then had the tire separate on the last leg home.

All in all, it went smoothly, and up until I stopped at Jon's, the trip was going very quickly.

Time to sort and store parts and rebuild the front end on the hauler.
It needs it.:(

LOL, of course, Jon.

It's not for lack of trying to remove it, but I waited 'til the wrong time to try.
It woulda' sucked to be posting to say that I got smooshed over the thing. :(

Turns out it's oddball, as it's for the tall frame trucks and has a riveted on "riser", which is why I couldn't recall what the rivets were about, Jon.
The "riser" on the 4wd crossmember pushes the trans/T-case back up the @ 1 inch that the taller frame lowers everything.

Now I'm looking for one, no, actually 2.

1 to correct a similar problem on DamnCharger (T-case too low), the other for a buddy's CrewCab 4x4 conversion.
