A representative ford the diesel division of ford came by yesterday to offer up a 400$ class to "train" us to maintain a 6.0 and 6.4 diesel motor. Really, they don't offer up service intervals in the ford book that comes with the hugely over priced trucks?!?!
This dude and I had one hell of a conversation over what should be considered "maintenance" and a failure of design causing more problems than is needed. I also asked him about the design flaws of the radiators I've seen lately, I was told ford had addressed that with a tsb and a new part that takes care of the radiators but I got no farther explanation of what it was, all I do know is you can't buy a radiator for a 6.4 with a warranty from any of my distributors
After a while of this guys brand worship speech I was starting to lose major amounts of patients with him and he spyed my dodge sitting in the back of the shop parking lot and he started in on it, whoo hold on now, somebody could end up with some hurt feelers over my truck and told him as much. He just said that the diesel of yesterday couldn't handle near what the new could and that the mileage differences was way different between the two, thats when I cut him off there and asked him just how much mileage a ford was suppose to get these days. I was told that they should get at least 18 on the hwy and 16 in town. I responded with well that old dodge gets better than that,it'll knock down 21mpgs on the hwy and not much less in town, and could out pull any ford you point out. I of course added not fast but pull none the less. Guy just couldn't believe that and said that I was crazy.
What's a Cummins guy got to do to get those power joke girls to realize that ford ain't where its at and if you want a motor, you buy Cummins. Not a cat,not Isuzu, and not international......Cummins
We need a slogan, some kind of saying that'll stick in the small sectors of the small minded.
.....Cummins,hauling all the heavy stuff so fords can stay alive, or Cummins,if it wasn't here, there'd nothing to base a good motor on
