I love wiring, it's just finding it a spot to be that I'm worried about. I'm putting another washer fluid reservoir by the battery so I can actually have washers again, so that pretty much leaves the spot where the grid relays reside. I'll figure it out eventually

In other news, I pulled enough $$ out of savings today to pay off my student loans, buy a locker, and also grab one of those cool fan controllers linked waaaaay back on page 25.

Merry Christmas to me. :D

Bah, spoke too soon.

Tried to get a Lock-Rite for the rear end since I'm not too concerned with road manners and whatnot. Of course, they're out of stock on them until the 1st quarter of next year. I told them to check on the No-slip setup by the same crew. I didn't really want to spring the extra $$ just for a little better street manners, but now is the time for cheap(ish) locker action. I won't be denied.

I'm not a huge fan of LSD's to be honest. I don't like having to put additives and stuff in the diff.

I'm a simple, gear oil man. Plus I don't want to have to deal, or pay, with having to pull the whole rear apart and have it reset/redone. :?

I'm a cheap bastard.

Got a locker! Called around for almost 4 hours yesterday before I found a place that had Powertrax stuff on the shelf. Apparently Powertrax/Richmond got bought out by Motive Gear and moved all their production overseas. The march-ish arrival date is when a shipment of stuff is due in from wherever.

These guys had four (now three) of the last American-made sets of no-slip's in stock they grabbed when they heard of the buyout. Only good for the 3.07-35 spliners among us, I never inquired about the 32 spline stuff. :?

So what you're saying is that Powertrax lockers are now junk because they're made in China? ;)

I don't know where they're making them now, TBH, but if I had to guess I'd say yeah. I'd also assume that the prices aren't going to come down from where they are now. I think they started climbing when supply started drying up.

Oh man, that locker is freaking sweet.

Threw it in in a few hours today, though I had to pull the 3rd member since the crosspin hit the ring gear. Still one of the simpler things I've done to this truck. Pulled it out of the shop and did a few circles in the gravel lot. Kind of weird how it works, it makes the truck go really fast around corners. However, I flexed up a big-ass berm at work in 2wd that I literally couldn't have went up in 4wd before.

On road, honestly isn't that different. It still moves around sharp corners rather quickly and has an odd unload when taking off around corners. It's not too bad, but it kinda messes with the 1-2 shift. Makes 2nd fall in really fast and messes with my usual driving style. Otherwise, I don't even notice it's back there. Don't notice it doing 70 down the interstate, don't notice it accelerating or decelerating on onramps, don't notice it cruising gravel roads. As long as it doesn't randomly self destruct I can't see a single bad side to this locker. It also doesn't make any noise that I can hear over the usual sounds of my truck.

Extremely glad with the purchase.

I also got this pic of my expert plans for my crossover, if I ever get around to making it. Figured there had to be some sort of pic in here:

I can tell by looking at it that I wouldn't subject to any high-impact shock loads. The dogs aren't very big on it, which probably makes it so civil, but it also makes it look kinda weak. If you go slow and let it get locked up before you apply any loads, I'm sure it would survive just fine. I'm not too sure how to get it to lock up in a drag situation, probably come up to the line a little crooked and put some torque on it as you straighten out for the launch. "scat" over on CompD had one pop on him and I PM'd him asking about it. Considering what he's got going on I'm sure mine'll be fine:

scat wrote:As of now my truck should be close to the 700-750hp range. I don't have oversized tires on it and have 3.55 gears. I do quiet a bit of racing with mine but the thing the lockers hate with how much torque we make is the half wet half dry pavement. Another thing I should add too is I have very hard light for the turbos, they are Kathy but one they hit the sweet spot they go like no other.

Also, I'm sure an auto truck will be much better at keeping it locked too, since it can keep torque on it at all times.

Oh, and sorry to hear your male anatomy part looks like that.

The Locker is locked all the time until you start to turn, then the force of the axles at different speeds causes them to unlock. That wet/ dry pavement comment is probably about the torque on the locker when it loads going to dry or unloads when hitting the wet pavement.

Andy, instead of using duck tape, (i never knew they taped ducks  ) use a garter, that's what they're for!
