He's a P-pumper now, too good for us. :yuck:

He keeps claiming to me that he's always too busy to get on the internet anymore. I don't buy it.

He just calls me and uses me to help him work on his truck like a (the) whore. (I am.)

Ah.
He has been bitten by the "Comfort" and "Performance" bugs. :D
No better package in the world, than a 2nd gen for both of those. :P

:bs:

I like my 2nd gen because I can get in and don't have to shift, and it does ride slightly better. But when I jump into the Green Machine and take off, all that crap goes out the window with the cloud of smoke, the squeal of tires, and the blast of horse power. :finger:

Ya know... I was laying in bed this morning, trying to convince myself to get up. I was thinking about this "all might p pump" that I don't like because of dynamic timing and all..... and thought, I wonder if one could make a centrifigul clutch type timing gear that would automatically advance a certain amount of degrees with rpm.?

But then none of us would have any excuse for still using the little ol' ve.

Old Macks had a oil actuated advance mechanism on the pumps gear.

As in....as oil pressure increases type deal

I think so. Begle1 said something about it about 2 years ago.

I've never looked into what works it, but our 3406's have some sort of advance system om them. They don't have much advance to them, and they're freaking huge, but they do seem to work.

I don't see a centrifugal advance functioning correctly with piston-style injection pumps with the pulsations they produce. I would think it would really mess with them. Not to mention what sort of weights it would take to actually advance something that's as huh? to turn as our IP's.

You don't turn the injection pump..... the gear would rotate.

You could do it with a gear that would be similar to a sprung hub system on a clutch.

Or like a dual mass flywheel.

You still turn the IP shaft, which is far from easy. And the shaft is what is most affected by the pulses.

I may look up how the 3406 advance works... maybe... or not.

Weighted advance?
Like in a spark distributor?

It changes advance according to the weight of the flyweight, the tension of the spring(s) and the length of the slots the advance weights are limited to.
Changing the tension of the spring and the flyweight's density regulates the timing curve.
Manufactured properly, the springs could serve to help dampen the pump's mechanical action.
