Caleb, does the ZF have PTO covers? I cut 2 short pieces of angle iron to bolt the tranny jack to the bottom PTO cover bolts on my 5 speed. This may not work for you with the TC, it may be too much weight in the back.
With all due respect to Mr. Ellis, NFW will I use wood to block up a trans and a strap to hold it any more. It's bolted solid to the jack or somebody else can get under there with it.

You have no sense of adventure Pete. I dropped out my 727 and 47RH with out a fancy jack. I zip tied a 12" x 12" piece of 1/2" plywood to the foot of a regular jack and zip tied the transmission to that piece of plywood. Worked great.

You should see the way we use to pull Mack transmissions,talk about scarry. It was all blocks and pry bars

Caleb, I tried to install my G360 once with the trans ratchet strapped to the jack. When I pushed the trans in it slipped out of the strap and fell off the jack. Never again.

Ellis, you obviuosly don't have a clue how to pull Mack trannys. You flip the truck on it's side and pick it out with the skid steer and a set of forks. True story!
I should see if I can find the pic of the Mack tractor sitting 90* on it's nose so we could install the rear cover back on the trans. That was interesting too.

Yay I ordered a new clutch kit. I have a set of skilled hands lined up to help me, the shop is open, and D-Day is this Saturday. Wagers on how long it'll take?

When i pulled my trans i fabbed up a quick jack adapter, flat jack pad from local cheepy store and some c-channel and square tube i had kicking around. It worked rather well. I think i used and existing jack adapter for the t-case though, along with some ratchet straps.

I have a flywheel in hand too just in case. I had forgot that my partner in crime on this one has a lathe. I'd be a happy camper if I could return that flywheel.

As far as jacks go, the fellow that's helping me has a mini lift, kind of like a lawn mower lift, except it's big enough for a truck. I'm thinking that if I set a piece of plywood on the lift and screw some 2x4s to that, creating a cradle, I'll be set. I'll find out tomorrow afternoon.

Flywheels shouldn't be turned on a lathe, they should be cut on a Blanchard wheel. It's a grinding stone instead of carbide cutters.

I was really tired last night, so that was the Cliff's Notes

Now for the whole story. My friend Austin secured a genuine (and safe ) transmission jack. We found a few junk U-joints while pulling the drive shafts. Shocker. The cross member was sort of a PITA. The plastic slip coupler for the hydraulic line broke and we only discovered this once everything was put back together Hydraulic clutches are currently on my sthi list and internal slave cylinders are satanic. For some reason the shifter stub had to come off to slide out. To top it all off, the pressure plate was full of mouse nest and bent. The pilot bearing, clutch disc, throw out bearing, and flywheel all looked damn near new.

Otherwise, it was pretty smooth. The trans and transfer case did in fact out weigh me by a long shot. I won't complain about my 727 as much. Even I can man handle it around
