Needing some help

Postby dgosney » Tue Feb 19, 2013 7:45 pm

Hey guys pulling season is coming up pretty quick and I'm in need of some more power. Last year I didn't do to well but i did beat some stock commonrails and powerstrokes. My truck is 6200lbs with 3.54 gears and 235s. I want enough power to run 3rd low. I have dap 5x.012s a hx40 a fass pump and one of kennys dual discs. What do I need for 3rd?

Have you done most of the pump/throttle linkage/throttle cable mods to get as much RPM/fuel as you can out of it? Do you also have an open exhaust and some sort of decent intake system?

What is your full mod list?

You might just want to drop a tire size or something if it's feasible.

I have all the usual pump mods and it's got a 4 inch down pipe to the t-case and 5 inch from there. The intake is just a bhaf. I can't really drop tire size cause a 235 is pretty damn small and I don't think it would make enough of a difference

You want a bigger tire. And until you get into the S300 turbos (62-66mm), I doubt you will get 3rd low and pull into peak torque.

3000-3200rpms works for me with 285's
what size exhaust housing on the 40? Down size the housing if you got a big one.

But the power it takes to turn 33's is not there. That is a gear almost like 4th and low on a 6 spd. I could almost do it but the power is not there to take you down the track.

Wouldn't a bigger tire make it a faster gear? The 40 has a 16 housing and I have no problem staying on top of it. I just need to figure something out without blowing a bunch of money on parts I don't need because I'm sure that money will be spent on repairs if it will run like I want it. 2nd low just isn't any fun and i want to place better than 5th or 6th out of 10 everytime.

Bigger has a faster final but more importantly, wider tread and contact patch which is more traction.

I have plenty of traction with 6 new all terrains. It's the horsepower that I'm lacking.
