1st gen turbo option

Postby jkidd » Thu Feb 21, 2013 1:51 pm

http://www.dieselautopower.com is working on a custom 59mm Borg Warner with a 61mm turbine wheel and .80 Turbine housing. It will be similar to a super B turbo that is non gated that will spool faster. It will match the strong low rpm curve of the VE pump. We hope to retail them with an hx40 downpipe at $1050 shipped is there much interest in something like this?

Would it gain in any platform over the 351cw?

Good question. The HE351 is hard to beat, but they are expensive as reman units and used ones are often beat by CR guys trying to make 600HP. If you have a good HE531 I think it would be better since it is gated.

Benefits over the he351 will be that they are new, and that the fitment will be better and more easily able to go to a larger turbo like a 62mm, 63mm, 64mm, or 66mm s300 without further modification.

By just a wheel change?

Is it component balanced or assembly balanced?

59mm is not much is any of an upgrade over the 60mm GDS wheel for 1/3 the price.

IMO....a 59/61/.8 non gated, would make a good turbo for a factory truck with factory injectors (i/c inj.)

But for the price of a $1050..... why not just get a S300G for the same amount of money that can support more.

Assuming the one DAP offers is a S300 based, the S300G is slightly smaller in the CHRA and not upgradeable to the 60+mm wheels.

It is an s200. The smaller s300 share parts with the larger s200, just as the larger s300 share parts with the smaller s400s (they have 63mm s400 and 66mm s300) The super B turbo has some s200 components on it.

I think it would bridge the gap for the 325-400HP range at a lesser price that wastegated s300 turbo. I am hoping to get more people to move away from the chinese 35/40 and have a platform where they can move to a larger s300 if needed.

I would like to know peoples thought before doing the work to make it a product we stock and sell. Would a non gated s300g .80AR 57/65/14 be of greater interest? We could probably;y do that for about the same. Flow is very similar, but the 65mm wheel will spool a little slower but have less back pressure.

I guess where I am coming from is.... you can get an Industrial Injection 57/65/14 gated turbo for $1050 as of right now.

What exducer measurements on on this charger?
I've never liked a charger with a bigger compressor wheel than the turbine. The back pressure drives the turbine forward and back killing the thrust bearings eventually driving the comp wheel into the cover

And I can pay $1400 for a 63/71/14cm and support more power and still be a reasonable option for a 1st Gen with 300+ hp on their list.

the $1050 for a 57/65 does not include a downpipe/clamp. Price without downpipe and clamp for the 59/61 would be about $900.

The 63/71/14 is not necessarily a quick spooling turbo and would be better suited to a bigger HP truck. A 63/65/14wg would better suit the low rpm fuel of the VE pump and makes peak flow at 35-38psi so you could WG early and be more efficient (simulate a lager turbine wheel). BD already makes the 63/65/14wg we can sell for $1350 w/o down pipe.

If no one thinks a BW turbo for under $1000 would be appealing I understand. My purpose is to find a new turbo that can be fitted for the 5.9L that would allow for more HP. We can do it with larger s300's like the 60/68 or 63/68 but the turbine housings are larger and they are not a direct fit. (I know 1st gen guys like to turn wrenches and are frugal so saving a few $ and modifying things is not as much of a deterrent than it is with the later generations of truck.).

More feedback please. :D

What I would like to see is a 60/65 or 60/68 with a t3 foot and 12cm divided housing or equivalent....

Something to replace the 351cw with a larger exhaust wheel without having to jump to a 62/65 or 63/68....

A 60 compressor moves enough air for 95% of ve pumped engines..... but we don't have a fast spooling option except the 351cw that is way too restrictive.

60/68 and 63/68 wastegated or non gated T3?

We are looking at cost/kits for the 12v and 24v and CR. They would fit the 1st gen as well, but the 68 wheel spools slightly slower than the 65 wheel. We have adapters to take the 4.21marmon --> hx40 or he351 flange, but if we do enough machining is probably better.
